Attending Appalachian State was the worst experience of my life. I was part of the Recreation Management program. The program was a joke. There is no way to learn how to be an outdoor leader from a classroom. The time spent outdoors was minimal and seriously lacks behind any real institution for outdoor education. Appalachian State University is a mountainous oasis in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The campus is beautiful and it is quite close to many outdoor activities, such as hiking, climbing, and rafting. Some teachers are great and really passionate about their subjects. My biggest issue is that I feel that none of the classwork prepared me for the real world. I have a degree that I can show to employers, but I did not have the experience I needed to feel confident when entering the workforce. The class sizes are perfect; there is not 500 kids per class like many of the larger Universities. The campus is stunning with the mountainous terrain. It is perfect for those who love the outdoors. I have grown immensely with my time here at App. It is the perfect setting to pursue your goals and enjoy it all the while.

Appalachian offers a diverse spectrum of opportunities to both learn in a classroom and work hands-on in the career path that you choose. Along with that, they offer many internships and work with many partner organizations that provide those opportunities as well. I am extremely satisfied with the quality of my education from Appalachian State University. I was surprised by the high level of care that each professor took in teaching their subject and helping me to be successful. Simply put, the English department is really wonderful. Some of the professors are world-renowned for their research, and all the professors have really unique and insightful things to share. I, personally, am doing a concentration in film studies, and I cannot speak more highly of the film professors that I've had. Unfortunately, if you're like me and somewhat averse to outdoor activities, there's not a ton to do outside of campus. I will say, though, that there are many, many clubs and groups on campus that can help occupy your time. If you want to knit with other people, you can! If you want to talk about philosophy and pop culture, you can! Almost everything is available via clubs and organizations. Really, my favorite thing about ASU is the study abroad program. I'm gone to France, Germany, Austria, and Italy while here, and I've gotten funding for each trip. The faculty-led programs are really fantastic, and they are led by very passionate and friendly professors. If I could pick my favorite days over the last four years, almost all of them would be trip-related. They're honestly surreal. Also! The food in town is amazing. So, so, so good.

Appalachian State University is a wonderful school. I applied here on a whim and wound up getting accepting. When I came to Appalachian I knew absolutely no one, but I felt extremely welcomed. My 4 years here have flown by and I have enjoyed every moment. My professors have been spectacular and I have been extremely satisfied with the level of knowledge they have provided me with. Appalachian offers an amazing force of professors that are highly developed and interested in helping students reach their highest potential. The psychology program in general offers many resources such as classes specifically correlated to graduate applications and career development. The school itself has an amazing number of resources outside of the specific departments to help you find a major or career that best fits who you are as a person. Appalachian State was the best choice I made to continue my academic career. The professors in the Department of History are helpful, interested in you as a student and your career, and willing to spend time going over material and answering questions. Read More effort outside of class to do the readings and be prepared for a suprise pop quiz prior to class. What you put into your education is what you will receive in return. ASU offers a lot to students through community and student programs, athletics, music, Old-Time Appalachian Mountain music and dance, plus the outdoors await you for many adventures. The only complaint I have with ASU, the Office of Financial Aid is screwed up, and myself along with a lot of other students were fooled around for a while and not receiving the aid promised. the office made several claims that either we did not send int he required paperwork, or the paperwork was lost. Several times I had to go to Financial Aid Office with copies of paperwork in my hand that they claim they never received. I value my time and educational experience at ASU, and I came away with great memories of friendships with numerous students and professors that will last a life time. But some winters, it can get cold!

The school psychology graduate program has provided me with an extremely diverse skill set, including counseling, consultation, collaboration, assessment, intervention, and program evaluation skills. The faculty are very knowledgable and supportive of all cohort members. The course work is both challenging but appropriate. While the field itself is competitive, the atmosphere within the cohorts is more supportive and encouraging rather than comparing performances. I have felt extremely prepared for... Appalachian State University is in one of the most beautiful locations in North Carolina, situated right in the mountains. The weather is pleasant here, although it gets cold in the winter. The program does not have an internship site on campus, which means sites are off-campus and sometimes up to an hour's drive away. Overall, I would definitely recommend this program.
