DO NOT GO HERE! I just finished the process of transferring to a different graduate program because its cost does NOT reflect the quality of education.

Professors are irresponsible, as ours forgot their laptops for a 3-hour long class, wasting EVERYONE’S time and money doing nothing since they did not make an alternative plan or assignment to make up for lost class time. Another professor used language like ‘crazy’ and ‘attention-seeking’ to describe a suicidal person from her other job in HR, also... Read More leaking VERY PRIVATE information, using full names, about drama in these companies, who got fired for what, who is ‘crazy’, and other sensitive information that I was taught was NOT APPROPRIATE to share from the workplace. This type of conduct is EXTREMELY inappropriate and unacceptable, I did NOT trust that I was receiving a quality education due to these ethical concerns from my instructors.

Lastly, do not go to this school unless you want to listen to your professor complain about how they hate dumbing stuff down at their other job because they have a doctorate and no one else in their department does, or listening to your professor insult her own colleagues in the classroom. I’m so grateful I left when I could, even though the school is so expensive and left me with so much debt already, because I do not feel confident about the skills of the instructors at the campus I attended.

This school is perfect for you if you don’t actually care about learning, you will spend your time doing high-school level assignments like learning about the Tortoise and the Hare, decorating a door in lieu of a final grade, trading oranges with your cohort, and other questionable methods for instructors to check off one more thing off of their to-do list of things they are supposed to be teaching you.

The academic content itself can be valuable, but the overall environment at The Chicago School is rigid and unsupportive. Administrative communication is inconsistent, and policies—especially around Residency and student wellbeing—lack flexibility or understanding of real-life circumstances.

The culture emphasizes strict adherence to rules rather than compassion or problem-solving. For a school that trains future counselors, the approach to student support often feels procedural rather than genuinely... Read More caring or trauma-informed.

I graduated in April 2025. The program (CMHC) teaches specifically to keep it's CACREP accreditation, which is completely unnecessary to most people who want to enter the counseling field. The administration is inept at best and constantly changes policy for internship, graduation requirements, etc.. Today, 1 month and 2 days after classes ended and 3 weeks after my degree was conferred and certified by the school for licensure, and 4 days after I received my degree in the mail, administration emailed... Read More saying there was a graduation requirement that they forgot about and which was mentioned nowhere except for one sentence in the student handbook. Now my degree conferral is in jeopardy unless I am able to complete this requirement. I wouldn't recommend this program to my worst enemy. Avoid at all costs- and the costs are very high for a program of this nature in Chicago. Look elsewhere. Plain and simple.

It was a breath of fresh air to see reviews with the same concerns that I have. I am not crazy, and clearly I am not alone. 1) Admissions counselor's blatantly lied and misled me. It was recommended to me from mentors that I find a program that is actively involved in your clinical placement. I asked the admissions counselor that question, whether TCSPP would facilitate clinical placement and he enthusiastically said yes. Learn next to nothing about counseling, but do hundreds of readings and assignments focused on power and privilege, racism, and LGBTQ+ issues. This school was my dream school. When I enrolled, I went to class for 2weeks and had to drop out. The books and other added fees had gotten to be too much to handle. I even filled out a book voucher and NEVER got that however, I was approved. Do not attend this school because it will cause medical issues if you are on a budget and trying to make ends meet. This school is a money pit.They flaunt "scholarships" and "fellowships" and then when you received your FA letter you see that the only thing you qualified for was a loan. $10k for two classes...I enrolled in a certificate program that literally cost me $20k for 12 credits!!! I took 2 more classes that added another 10k to my loan debt. They are just in it for the money. I finally had enough and finally called FA and asked for an itemized accounting - NO REPLY so far after 8 days. I'll be going elsewhere,... You basically interact with your professor and classmates via a discussion board. You have learning modules with reading assignments; complete the reading and then answer the required questions on the board. If you have any questions for your professor you have to email them. True that most are adjuncts HOWEVER I will say that I have had a great experience with them all. They provide a wealth of information and their real-world experience is very helpful. My one main complaint about this school is the cost. It is NOT worth the "discussion board only" education you get. Not at all.

The lessons are very relevant to my current job. My only complaint is that the assignments are due in such a short period of time. For example, assignments are issued on Mondays. Sometimes, the assignments entail 40+ pages of reading and a discussion post due by Wednesday. Other times, the assignment requires reading four chapters and answering a question or two by Thursday. As far as the school goes, I like it enough. The admins are facility staff are cordial and respond to emails within a reasonable time. The professors are professional and knowledgeable. I love this school. It's much better than my last school where I was also pursuing a PhD.

You will be ok here if you are white. Typical for-profit, gate keeping colonialist school. Dare to complain about a profesor, they will be promoted for it! But wait, that sane person in the point of contact for student concerns so why even bother! If you are in the PhD program, mind that you wont get to pick your chair. I'm at the Chicago campus in the applied behavior analysis MS program and have been very happy with the professors and chairs of the department. A couple of the adjunct faculty members could be a little more involved but they also bring real-world experience to their classes since most are still working directly with clients, which has been a very important learning experience. I was at the DC campus for Forensic Psychology and left because the chair was vindictive and created more problems than solutions. He was the Dean's pet and made everyone around him uncomfortable. I was ostracized by him many times and he seemed to get off on his power trip. Nobody liked him, including his faculty and GAs. The teachers are great and what I learned was exceptional. However, this college is a degree mill. They guarantee jobs after graduation, but if you are working at a restaurant, that counts as employment. They don’t guarantee they will get your a job in your field. Highly don't recommend. Most of your professors are adjunct or PhD candidates. You won't be learning from people who have been in the field longer than you have (sometimes I was in the field longer than them!). This school also does not care about minority groups. I took an extension thesis course and will likely have to take a second because of this absurd lack of professionalism from a school that calls themselves "professional" psychology. Unbelievable. Entire experience was soured by this process. And the school has the audacity to blame me and not assist or give me an alternative in anyway so I can graduate. They took over 50,000 in tuition and want me to pay for their mistakes. The least they could do is give tuition back for the extensions (or better yet, not charge a student for an extension that is clearly the school's fault!). Do not go here. Run! Do not waste over 1k a credit hour. Be prepared to not be responded to when you reach out for help or clarification. Be prepared to face plagiarism allegations if your writing is too good. I've been very disappointed with the adjunct professors. 5 of my classes (out of 10+) have been taught by faculty, one of which was an intro advising course. I pay a decent chunk of change for this program and the adjuncts are completely unqualified. A BCBA with 3 years of experience or less (I've had at least 3 instructors at this level, and will have 2 more this upcoming semester) are not qualified to be teaching the core concepts and advanced material of behavior analysis.
