My experience at ETSU was fantastic. The campus is great and easy to navigate with very descriptive signage throughout. I never had an issue finding my classes, which is a problem at other campuses I have been on. The quality of instruction from the professors was also top notch. Every professor I had was eager to help any issues I had and was always available in the evenings. One of the classes I took also helped prepare me for the workforce by simulating interviews and job applications. ETSU is... Read More

My experience at ETSU was overall positive, however I wished there was a greater variety of clubs and other campus-based activities. Plus, my college experience was atypical due to closure of campus as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The transition from on-campus to online classes resulted in significant gaps in my education.

East Tennessee State University was a great college for me to attend. I was able to graduate with very little student debt because of the schools affordability. I graduated with numerous job prospects and felt prepared for my career field. While attending ETSU I did both online and in person classes. All of my teachers were engaging and my admission counselor was very helpful in helping my choose classes based on major in interest. I do think there could be more ways for transfer students to get... Read More

I attended ETSU in the middle twenty tens, and I wouldn't trade my experience there for anything. The professors were knowledgeable and approachable and showed genuine interest in their students' academic success. I made friends that will be with me for life, and the lessons I learn inform my every day decisions still.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at East Tennessee State University. Initially I chose ETSU because it was one of the cheapest options in the region, and several friends were going to attend there. I lived on campus my first year, and I lived in a nearby apartment less than 5 minutes away during the remainder of my time at ETSU. The campus itself is beautiful, and there was always something to do. Johnson City has all the amenities of a small city but not the traffic and confusion that often comes... Read More
I graduated with my Bachelor's and Master's degree in Accounting at ETSU. I was able to study and pass the CPA exam during my master's program, and I felt that the academics at ETSU really helped me in my studies. However, the Master's degree should have been more tailored to helping students pass the CPA exam in my opinion. More Excel classes should be required since that is what I've used in every job I've had after graduation.
Overall, ETSU is amazing and definitely worth at least a tour if you get the opportunity. If I had to do it all again, I would definitely choose ETSU again.

East Tennessee State University is a quite and cozy University situated inside the blue ridge mountains. This is a great school for people looking to live in an outdoors focused region. There's unlimited amounts of outdoor activities to take part in along with other students who have similar interests.

ETSU is an excellent choice for medical careers, not so much for any other. Most people who are doing engineering degrees do start at ETSU, but end up going to UT to finish. My experience with a business degree was disappointing. They have students helping you pick your courses instead of actual counselors, which almost led me to a six month extension of courses, due to their negligence. However, as mentioned before, excellent medical career choice with JCMC and the VA hospital across the street... Read More

I had a really good experience at ETSU because of a few professors in my department. I loved their teaching style and their lessons really stay with me even now. I would say overall, the academics weren't very challenging and I didn't feel very engaged at the university. It is very large and there are many people who commute and don't live on campus. I think I would have preferred a closer knit community. I also wrote for the school newspaper, which was fun and I loved that aspect of my college experience.... Read More

After being sold a broad degree which I loved working towards at the time, post graduation companies will not take the degree seriously no matter what field you work. The professors are wonderful and the subject matter is interesting and engaging, but if you want a job after graduation that pays enough to survive on try a STEM path instead which can be obtained from a community college at much lower investment costs. Save your time and effort.

As an undergrad at ETSU, I absolutely loved the small town feel of Johnson City. Everyone was very friendly, I felt safe on and around campus, and everything I needed was near by. This was my first experience away from home, and it was a great place to be. The community and culture was encouraging. I will always have a fondness for my time at this school. I personally struggled to find a job after graduation, but I never made use of the career services. I recommend students using all the services... Read More

Hands down ETSU was the best decision for my undergraduate degree. After some trail and error I found the degree that would set me on the career path of my dreams. I focused in Park and Recreation Management and I couldn't have made a better decision! From the time I entered my major I found that the professors were great and they really want what is best for their students. I would find myself spending extra time in the classrooms and office hours just to soak up as much information as possible.... Read More

I did not have a bad time with any of the professors I had with biology and chemistry. I was very impressed with how invested the teachers there were in my success and education. I had some fairly difficult coursework, but it was all doable. I am extremely happy with my experience there. It is very much a bargain for the price.

love my university, and of course, my university is ETSU. I will admit that I had some animosity towards my major and the school overall when I found out my graduation would be delayed. Almost every department has this problem of not informing students well enough of "ladder classes" that are only offered in certain semesters, and one class will be a prerequisite for another. It's very common to meet students who are going 5 or 6 years for their 4-year-degree just because of some scheduling problem.... Read More

The program at ETSU is disorganized at best. The department lacks cohesion and students receive very little support. Leadership and campus involvement is lacking. Students are treated like children. Foundational classes are crammed together with no regard for true learning.

East Tennessee State University provided great academic support. All of the education classes provided information that I use daily as a teacher. The professors were inspirational and dedicated. Financial aid at the college was not as helpful. The process was confusing and the lines were always long. I also did not receive any help in finding a job once I had earned my degree. There were no contacts with school systems or superintendents. Once I got my diploma, I had no further contact with ETSU... Read More

ETSU is an excellent school. The teachers are excellent. They offer a wide variety of classes and programs online. They have great financial options/financial aid, especially if you are disabled (tuition seriously discounted if you are receiving SSI or SSDI). Their department for students with disabilities could use some work, though (they don't coordinate much - it's up to you to do pretty much everything).
