I choose this school because they had a fully online Anthropology MA available. They are affordable, and most of my classes were interesting and taught well. There were quite a few new hires during my attendance, and we lost at least one professor. Most teachers had some experience with online teaching, although not all of them. The advising is what was extremely difficult. Being remote, I felt I got left out or forgotten, even when I sent emails and tried asking questions. I feel they are severely... Read More overworked, and can't provide the attention needed to remote students, focusing instead on the younger kids who are in their face and on campus every day. It's disappointing, because I really enjoyed my time there right up until the end. IMO, advising should be handled by an objective staff member who is dedicated to the students. The pool of teachers is very small and had a cooling effect for being able to share negative feedback. My recent experiences have soured my opinion of the school, which is unfortunate. I feel if I were younger and attending in person, I would have a different experience.

If I can give this school a zero rating I would. From the teacher to the finical aid office to the register office. I have gotten failed her. This school caused my finical aid money to get taken because of their ignorance. And my classes I tried to drop through the register office, they wouldn't drop it. Causing my GPA to drop drastically and now me having to owe the school 3,000 thousand dollars. Now I can't get back in school, with know fault of my own. Until I pay them 3,000 thousand dollars.... This school is really easy to work with. 100% online, I have not once had to go to campus. Professors are very responsive. I work a 40 hr week and am able to the program full time. It consists of 8 week courses. Just about all classes are 1 discussion per week and 3 APA projects. I take 2 8 week courses at a time. Total time it is going to take me to finish is 5 semesters. This university has definitely improved my writing skills and format.

I attended this university online as a non-traditional student. I cannot say anything about the campus as far as dorms, campus safety, diversity, or the food. However, I can review the professors and their teaching practices. They seemed to be understaffed with advisors because one of my Speech Language Pathology teachers was the advisor for most of the students in the degree program. He was overworked and you could tell because he had absolutely no personality and could care less about advising.... Read More The online classes are good, though. Some professors provide video lectures with their classes, but most of them do not. You basically just have to read the assigned chapters and write discussion board posts each week. Depending on the professor, you may have a quiz or test every week. Beware of professors who do not post due dates on the syllabus. I had one professor, as a first-year teacher, who was so unorganized and I didn't get my grades until the end of the semester. I had no idea what my grades were for the entire semester. I finally emailed the Dean to get it all sorted out and now his performance is noted on his record. That was the most stressful and frustrating semester, as I relied on my grades to graduate. If the professor is going to assign assignments and not grade them, he is not doing his job in my opinion. Paying for a class with an absent teacher is not ideal for anyone. This was the only truly horrible teacher I had throughout my time here as a student. The tuition is low, which is ideal for everyone, but especially for non-traditional students who have lots of bills to pay while attending school. I ended up getting my tuition paid for with my pell grant, which was really nice! There are also a few scholarships you can apply for on their website. Overall, I would recommend this university because of the affordability and various online programs. My only complaint is that I wish they offered more online programs.

ENMU made it possible for me to complete my entire degree online. I was able to log in an watch lectures that had been given earlier in the day to students on campus. This made me feel like more of a 'traditional student' than with any other online learning program I have participated in. I was able to put faces with names, and learn the same information as everyone else. ENMU is an extremely affordable University, which is the main reason I chose to get a master's here. The Chemistry program is extremely small (less than 10 students), so you get to know your professors very well. The size has its disadvantages though - there are only five chemistry-specific professors, so upper division chemistry classes are limited. If you want to go to a mall or the movies, you have to travel 20 miles to Clovis, NM, and public transpiration is almost non-existent. For me, the small class size, intense professor interaction, and affordability make up for the lack of variety in upper level courses, limited funding, and few things to do.

Eastern New Mexico University, located in Portales, NM is a small, but lovely school. The school is located in a small town filled with kind people. There are not many activities and you have to have a car to get around. There are larger cities and plenty of outdoor activities located just a couple hours away in every direction, however, which will fill up your weekends if you find the time between schoolwork. The department is small, which makes us a tight-nit group. The archaeological focus is on the Southwest United States region. Completing the program grants you a MA and requires a thesis, which would make you a more desirable candidate for employment than someone who earns their MA through a MA/Ph. D program that tests you out, because you have completed quality, publishable research. The classes cover theory, statistics, plus technical classes that cover almost any basic archaeological analysis that you could want to focus on and is expanding. First year graduate students can be GAs and the tuition and cost of living is very cheap. The school is also located next to Blackwater Draw, the Clovis type site, and offers a field school there every other year. Overall, my rating is high for the quality of education that you would earn at ENMU. The location of the school can be off putting for someone coming from a larger city (I am from New York), but if you can get over the location, the school and experience is more than worth it if you want to focus on archaeology.
