Georgia Southern, over other colleges I've had experiences with, cared about my success in my classes more than I thought a school would. When I attended, my teachers were great at balancing support and realism. I was originally going to school for something I didn't graduate as and felt very lost. Each of my teachers was able to help give their perspective, and give me the information I needed to pivot into something I really enjoyed. Read More was in, I have no doubt that had my professors became later colleagues in the field that same courtesy would have been extended. If the culture of the school is the same now as there was then, many students will succeed!

I am actually from Texas so when I was about to graduate I took a big step out and decided to go out of state to Georgia Southern. it was an interesting choice but I met a few good people there, I think I just have several gripes. First with the housing it's cool but they don't really have good infrastructure, water everywhere in pools in a rainy climate and not that much evacuation protocol in case of a hurricane. Read More you don't show up to the first day of class you get dropped from the class automatically; one would think that showing up is what everyone would do which is okay, but in a case where you have some medical problem or scheduling conflict that isn't your fault, they remove you from something that you already paid money for which is not good.

Georgia Southern was a college when I attended, but so many of my family and friends attended right after me, and even way beyond, and they had a similar experience to me: The mid or early 80s was great, the school was small and people cared, but later on, the school just became too much about size, about pretending to forget what made it great, the personable touches it once had. My scholarship was a joke, the former honors program I was a part of was just a chore for all of us involved, really.... Read More It's nonexistent now but was run by an egomaniacal, narcissistic idiot who wanted the rest of us to feed his self esteem. So many people dropped out of the program. I am concealing my own info and grad year because that program was small and I don't want retribution, but half of us who were part of it hated the program! I had a ton of friends, excelled in my major, but I didn't really feel most classes were a boost in any way to how I got a job and moved up in the world as time went by--most of that I could have done with a piece of paper from anywhere that said I had a degree. Maturing was a great thing to do during college, but to be honest, I think I was light years ahead of the programs offered at the time. The football, the Erk Russell years, those things were wonderful, as was the small-town feel of Statesboro then. However, the alumni outreach is also lacking over the years and it's sad to not have anything that resembles a true and caring alumni office. They don't do anything except ask for money these days or send things out about the great sporting programs or how far Georgia Southern "has come" in "diversity"...please! I feel like I don't know my alma mater, and I think we were all plenty diverse at the time, too!

Georgia Southern University is an excellent school in the great town of Statesboro, GA. The location with the first thing that was a huge plus for me. It is only about an hour and a half from Augusta, GA, and forty-five minutes away from Savannah, GA. It was close enough to home to feel secure, but far enough away to get a full college experience. The classes were really great! The school of nursing ran like a well-oiled machine. I enjoyed the clinical experience I received at both the local hospital... Read More and at the hospitals in Savannah, GA. The behind the scenes work and time commitment to set up those clinical experiences are extensive, and they were essential for my degree. I felt like a was prepared to go into the medical field with the knowledge I received at GSU.

Georgia Southern is a great university! I had the time of my life in school. The campus is welcoming, and beautiful. There is a wide variety of food options to use your meal plan, and they are all delicious. The library is massive, and an incredible resource right in the heart of campus to allow you to study between classes and even on the weekends. The sports are fantastic to watch, especially football, the stadium is huge and the environment is unbeatable. There is a large fitness center as well... Read More that has all of the amenities you could want. Savannah is less than an hour away if you need an escape from campus life, and Hilton Head Island is just over an hour. I felt so at home during my time there, and I have life long friends that I met along the way. I also had incredible professors who taught me so much, and I still keep in touch with many of them.

I currently attend Georgia State College of Law in hopes of becoming a capable asset in the legal community. Thus the Writing and Linguistics degree that I obtained at Georgia Southern University has been essential to the path I chose. Legal writing is a huge and often scary part of the legal profession. While it is a very different style, the fundamentals and techniques I learned through my undergrad majors courses made it significantly less terrifying. Georgia Southern enabled me to reach for more.... Read More I truly enjoyed my years at the University because the campus simply hummed with opportunity and edification. The University catered to each student as an individual by offering a variety of organizations, jobs, and internship programs. And the Writing and Linguistics department always went out of their way to help me choose my desired paths. Furthermore, the professors were an integral part as they mentored us students based on their experience and genuine investment in helping us grow. I truly had a memorable experience in Eagle Nation.

Georgia Southern has a beautiful campus. The amount of greenery and sitting areas throughout the entire university provide great opportunities to take a breather after a stressful test, to meet up with friends, or just to take a moment to yourself. I can only recall ever disliking two professors (one in my freshman year and one in my senior year) but, as with any school, there are bound to be some professors you like, some you love, and some who make you wonder why and how they're even still teaching.... Read More Every professor that I had in the psychology department was outstanding, though. My favorite professor for psychology was Dr. Locker because he just made Psychological Statistics and Advanced Psych Stats so so SO very easy to understand. (& this is coming from someone who DOES NOT math because no). There's a Starbucks on campus, which is essential, and a bunch of other eateries too. They even recently added a sushi place in the nursing building. It's VERY easy to get lost in the first few weeks of classes. I honestly didn't figure out some shortcuts to places until my senior year, so don't feel bad if you still can't find Herty or Rosenwald. Last, but not least, the busses. If you haven't had the bus doors close in your face at least once, you deserve an award. Some of the drivers will see you, open the door, & say sorry, but then you have those ruthless ones who will see you, keep the door shut, sit there with the door closed, & then drive off. Whether you get left by a bus or not, remember that GA Southern isn't all bad and the experience is what you make it.
