The Library and Information Science program at IUPUI provides valuable skills to students hoping to work professionally in a variety of organizations. Through management, reference, technical services, and more coursework the program gives students a distinct advantage outside of the program. At times the program was not flexible for full time workers who also worked in the program full time but overall professors were easy to reach and work with throughout each course.

Obtaining a graduate degree from SPEA at IUPUI has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I won't pretend that everything about the campus is perfect, or that IUPUI is the right choice for everyone, but it has helped me to land my dream job with the company I wanted to work for, so I would highly recommend IUPUI as an option for perspective grad students.

I learned a lot from my peers, as well as my instructors in this program. They are very supportive, and eager to connect you with the museum community locally and beyond, which is a must in this job market. The program stresses museum-community engagement, not collections development. This is great for those interested in education and exhibits. Maybe not as great for collections students. But it certainly offers a useful perspective of museum work today.

I love the medical dosimetry program at IUPUI. The program director has more experience in the field than anyone else in the state and helped develop a few of the techniques that are used nationwide to treat cancer patients with radiation therapy. All of the staff is fantastic to work with and really care about our education in this program. Other than feeling rushed at times (which is how it will actually be all the time when I actually work in the field), I have no complaints about the program.... Read More

My program is called Transition to Teach, and it is for students who hold a bachelor's degree, but decide they would like to become an educator. It's ideal for people like me, who maybe thought one career would be sufficient during undergrad, but post graduation realized they needed a change based on life style, change of interest, etc. The program allows you to be a certified teacher before actually completing the Master's Degree which also very neat. The only con going into the program is if your... Read More

I found that the Event Tourism department is slightly unorganized. I'm a full month into my first semester and I still haven't been assigned an advisor. I feel a little unguided and I really have no idea what's expected of me or what I should expect of my classes. The coursework, however, has been fun, interesting, and informative.

Pros: Teaching relevant and practical skills to apply in the workplace, ability to network with individuals within your career field, offering flexible times to schedule classes for students who work full time, offering adequate parking space for all students, and flexibility to access academic resources off campus. Cons: Limited opportunities for meals, limited meeting space for large events, construction projects are constantly in progress, and doors/buildings lock too early for students taking... Read More

Being in the very beginning stages of the Graduate program through Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis, I can honestly say it has been an easy transition from my undergrad program. I am enrolled in the Online MSW - Direct program and am very excited to get my graduate school underway. I have had the privilege to speak with different offices to make sure that all of my paperwork and documents were submitted on time and have received the best support from all of the individuals that... The MSW online program has made it easier to work full time while attending grad school. The coursework is very interactive and still makes you feel connected to a class room setting. I do not feel I am missing out by completing school online.

As an aspiring sports reporter, this program provides a unique opportunity to get a Master's Degree in Sports Journalism, something only available at a couple of schools in the country. It also is provided in the center of a booming sports city in Indianapolis, and the internship and job opportunities are plentiful. The only cons I see with this program is the high cost and unavailable student aid or school scholarships. The career choices it prepares you for are not those with a high income, yet... Read More

There was too much emphasis on culture and not enough on classroom management. They made me pay out of state tuition even after I moved to an apartment in Indianapolis and had met all the requirements for in state tuition. Some instructors/professors were great while others were not so good. Lots of freebies and love that the campus is so green.

I have really enjoyed my time thus far at IUPUI. The professors of my program are approachable and more than willing to share their knowledge. The IUPUI experience comes along with the big city experience, which includes crime. Personally, I have never been a victim of crime while in Indianapolis, but have known many people who have.

This school counselor program at IUPUI has been going great so far. I want to work in higher education one day and I can't wait to get started and enter deep within the program. There are many pros about the program such as getting to do a practicum for one semester and then an internship for a whole year. This is a great way to get experience with student on-on-one. The only con I have so far is that most of the classes are offered as night classes and I learn better in the day time. Although, I... Read More
