Jacksonville State is a wonderful institution that balances fun campus involvement with academic studies that challenge students. One of the reasons I chose the school was for the clear diversity and inclusion, which is something I'd like to see more of in the present day. Also, the school spirit reigns supreme in support of the arts and sports teams. Overall, I wouldn't trade my undergraduate experience for anything in the world.

When I was in high school, other people described this university as a 'party school', but I would disagree with that. I was able to participate in a lot of campus activities, met a lot of people that I'm still close friends with today, didn't struggle in class, and found help when I needed it. It was close enough to home that I could visit my parents on the weekends, and I was within driving distance to some larger cities if I wanted better nightlife.

In my time at Jacksonville state I was prepared very well for my future career. All my professors genuinely had my best interest at heart and were always professional and friendly. The campus atmosphere is great and the student body is very active and outgoing.

The campus is fun and pretty easy to get around. The in person classes I had were mainly ok. Most of my teachers were nice and helpful. I had one great advisor and one bad one. My online classes are ok. I have had problems with communication and getting grades in a decent time

I would recommend Jacksonville State University to prospective students. It is a great atmosphere and offers great education. I got my business degree and it has helped immensely in my career. If you are a local student and don't want to go too far from home, there is no better choice!

Jacksonville State University is a phenomenal college for people pursuing careers in education. The school properly prepares students for life beyond the campus and gives them lifelong skills for their particular roles in education. The availability of online courses and degrees is a huge bonus, especially for non traditional students.

I feel like JSU is a good college for certain majors, especially teaching and nursing. Overall it's a pretty middle of the road school. I feel like a got a good education in my major but I would say I didn't feel adequately prepared for what it's like to actually have a job in my field. Hopefully now there's more of an emphasis on internships or work experience possibilities before graduating, as well as what it's actually like to have a 9-5 desk job. The school environment doesn't translate well... Read More

Please DO NOT go to JSU if you are an older returning student, online or in Person. I returned after 36 years and found the same rules do not apply to ALL returning students. In the recent years, changes to policies help those who are returning from a more recent departure date, but the rules were not designed to include ALL returning students with older departure dates. The advisor I received was not equipped to advise/help a returning older student to meet the goals of an adult already in the workforce.... Read More

Degree: Nursing

Jacksonville State University provided me with everything I needed to obtain a bachelors degree in Nursing. The program was online and only required me to come to campus a few times for testing. I was able to maintain a balance in work, family and school life. If I had to go back to do my bachelors degree I would recommend looking into their program.

Jacksonville State University was a great experience for me! The campus was safe and inviting. The professors were always on my side, pushing me to be the absolute best professional I could be. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Science in Family and Consumer Science with a concentration in Merchandising. My professors provided every avenue of knowlege and experience for me to be sucessful in my field. To this day, I still feel confortable asking my previous advisors for opinions, assistance,... Great school! Dr. B is the best in the program. The advisers were a great help in identifying the schedule I needed to complete my degree in a timely manner. It was also helpful that it was all online. Being a wife and a mother, my schedule tends to stay full. However, the classes I took at JSU kept the work purposeful rather than meaningless, requiring me to only complete assignments that I truly gained knowledge from.

Personally, I was not entirely too impressed with the University during my first 2 years of school. It seemed like that basic classes I took when I was a freshman and a sophomore were not exactly very interesting and did not keep students engaged. Moreover, the professors teaching those classes were not the best and did not have the best credentials. Nevertheless, my last 2 years of school and classes take when I was a Junior and Senior were extremely wonderful. I was extremely impressed with all... Read More

Jacksonville State University is a great school. They have very knowledgeable faculty and staff. They give real word scenarios that will help you once you graduate. They are also flexible if you want to attend school online or on campus. My overall experience with JSU was wonderful. Go Gamecocks!!!!

Overall, I would say that the program is good. The classes are not too difficult if one sets enough time to studying. I chose the program because I wanted in-person classes to meet other people in the business community. The program also has forums where local leaders come and speak about their business models. This is a great networking opportunity.

Jacksonville State is a decent small college with a large university price tag. I encountered a few great faculty members who truly care about their students' education. Though, if you're looking for a serious academic school, I would look elsewhere. The university has spent millions of dollars in the past few years on a new football stadium, big screen tv's, and soon a new recreation center while academic buildings are in shambles. Its atrocious disregard for the central purpose of a university,... Read More

The student-to-professor ratio is fairly low on campus. This allows plenty of opportunities for students to get to know their professors on an individual basis. The professors are more than willing to help students during their time as a student and after graduation. For example, I myself have found that professors are more than willing to help me as a transition from an undergraduate to a graduate student. Not only that, but they are genuinely interest in my success as a student. The campus is know... Read More
