Degree: Architecture

Overall, not a bad school to attend for architecture or in general. After starting a career I realized there are a lot of gaps in what you are taught though. A large emphasis is placed on design and the design process, which is a big part of the field, but there’s minimal attention given to other crucial things such as building codes.

The use of technology is invaluable as most every office uses some type of software to complete every day work. Morgan State gives you a small dive into several different... Read More

The school often held career fairs, but if you’re an architecture student I wouldn’t count on anything coming out of these. The firms invited typically came and entertained student interest, but they were all typically looking for recent grads or students with at least 2 years of experience. Which is hard to get when the school doesn’t bring in firms that are willing to work with 2nd or even 3rd years.

Be aware that most architecture professors are incredibly unforgiving. Even in personal or medical situations, they are often not lenient when it comes to missing class or making up assignments. There were many professors I encountered who didn’t think there were any valid excuses to miss class. There’s a professor on staff who ignores accommodations granted by the university and blames students when he can’t find excused notes. Be aware that he had full backing from the department head when both of those issues were taken to higher ups at the university, so as a student you feel powerless even though he breaks numerous university and other laws/rules.

In general, the professors at Morgan are really hit or miss. You have some that don’t entirely care and others who care too much, as well as everything in between. I suggest looking into rate my professor before choosing classes, it was often pretty helpful to determine who was good vs who would make your life horrible.

If you need anything from the school, tack on 3-4 business MONTHS to hear back from them. I was always ran in circles trying to find out information that the school claimed to have, yet nobody had an answer.

Overall, there’s a lot to know about the architecture field and I think Morgan State does an okay job preparing students for the real world. The school as a whole needed some improvements internally, but I still thoroughly enjoyed my time.

Degree: English

Just stay away from this place. Don't consider getting a PhD in English from here. The administrative process is a mess, and you'll get lost in a maze. Only a few professors are knowledgeable, and the rest just don't care. In addition, the dissertation process is disorganized and you have to beg professors to be on your committee. It's all about favoritism, not your academic excellence.

I am so sorry I came to this program. Sure it is an excellent bargain regarding tuition, but you get what you pay for. Director takes months to answer emails. Then she is vague when she bothers to write. Little (like $100) or no financial support for research, conferences, or travel Took members of my Cohort over a semester just to schedule a defense No standards regarding plagiarism, cheating, or even in preparation for defense NOT student friendly- really administration friendly- it's all about... I truly do feel like in numerous areas they lack academics, like illuminating understudies about occasions and scholastics. Morgan to me is an exceptional shut-off school. In the event that you don't resemble a specific gathering of individuals or dress equivalent to them, you'll be forgotten about on numerous occasions. There are a lot of cliques here at Morgan and many individuals here are some interesting people to me. I'm an information system major and my whole time being here at Morgan I haven't... Read More

If you are looking to make an impact on your community, both in and out of the classroom, Morgan State University is surely the school for you! Upon enrolling as a freshman in 2015, I quickly became involved on campus and begun to make my mark. During my freshman year, I ran for Miss Freshman (a position that allows for you to be the voice/advocate for the entire freshman class). Although I lost the race, I did not let that stop me from being an active member of the Morgan State community. I decided... Read More

Morgan State University is a great school. My program helped prepare me for my career as an educator by giving me the knowledge and helping me build the skills that I needed to be successful in the classroom. My experience at Morgan also prepared me to teaching students abroad in Malaysia through the Fulbright program. My professors at Morgan have supported me throughout my academic and professional journey. Having such caring professors support me and push me to be my best.

Morgan State University is a great school to attend if you are looking to improve your self-initiative skills. They will make nothing easy for you (which is a good thing in a lot of ways, but can be a pain in others). It's easy getting into Morgan but they will make you work to get out. Retention rate is really high, not because students are lazier here than anywhere else, but because of the numerous standardized tests you must pass with a "B" or better in order to graduate. Morgan was an excellent school. The class sizes were not overwhelmingly large. This have students a chance to have meaningful interactions will all instructors. Although Morgan State University was not my first choice, it was the best decision I've made thus far in life. My 5 years at Morgan State University cultivated the leader that I am today. When I first got to Morgan, I was a Chemistry major. As a Cameroonian-American, only careers in medicine, pharmacy, engineering and law were acceptable. Later during my matriculation, I realized that I did not enjoy chemistry and more importantly, I did not want to become a pharmacist. As a result of this realization,... Read More
