Degree: Secondary Education

I attended National Louis University (NLU) to pursue a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Secondary Education. My time in the program began with a sense of excitement and purpose — I was eager to become an educator and contribute meaningfully to the next generation. The coursework and preparation provided by NLU were well-structured and aligned with the realities of classroom teaching. My instructors were knowledgeable, supportive, and dedicated to helping future teachers succeed.

As a result, I was forced to withdraw from the program despite having successfully completed all academic requirements up to that point. The experience left me feeling abandoned at a time when I most needed institutional support. I had expected a university that promotes inclusivity, diversity, and student advocacy to stand by its principles — particularly in a case involving discrimination and professional integrity.

While I still recognize the strength of NLU’s academic instruction and the compassion of many individual faculty members, my overall experience was overshadowed by the lack of institutional courage to defend one of its own students. My hope is that National Louis University learns from this and strengthens its commitment to equity and advocacy, ensuring that no future student faces similar injustice without meaningful institutional support.

THE WORST SCHOOL... Students beware. I cannot stress this enough. I transferred from Generations College after getting my associate degree in business administration. I was a straight-A student and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I graduated with a 3.98 GPA. I decided to go on to pursue my education further and try to get a bachelor's degree through National Louis University because of the articulation agreements they had with Generations College. The problems started two weeks before my first semester... Read More

The professors in my department was amazing they were supportive and always made sure that if you need assistance they will help you as long as you asked. I thought the courses were fun and can help me with getting a job and thought that career services was great. HOWEVER the Financial aid department and the advising was terrible a nightmare. FASFA doesn't help you if you need help you basically have to figure it out yourself and advising was useless had to figure everything out myself. I like this... Read More

National-Louis University is by far the most unprofessional school I have ever been to. It has been an issue ever since I registered at that school in June, first it was something with my registration. then it was something with an overlap a loan from my other school Maccormac college, than National Louis lost my transcript.now it is something every time I tried to call my advisor, my financial aid adviser, the register, or the dean of the school, no one ever answers the phone it is very unprofessional.... THIS SCHOOL DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU UNLESS YOU’RE PUTTING MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EDUCATION, DO NOT GO HERE! THEY KNEW I WAS HOMELESS WITH NOWHERE TO GO AND KICKED ME OUT!! THEY MADE A BUNCH OF PROMISES AND GUARANTEES TO ME BEFORE I APPLIED FOR THIS SCHOOL AND THEY DIDNT KEEP ANY OF THEM! THEY KICKED ME TO THE CURB AS SOON AS I WASNT ABLE TO PUT MONEY IN THEIR POCKETS! I HAD 1 MORE YEAR TO GRADUATE BUT THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THAT! NOW I CANNOT GRADUATE AFTER TAKING AN EXTRA... Read More

I am so disappointed by reading these reviews. I had terrible issues with NLU's financial aid department. Everytime I called student finance I received a different answer. My aid was never packaged by the time that the terms started. I was all set to start my third term at NLU and was told that I could not continue unless I paid them over $3,000. I was very honest with my admissions counselor, academic advisor, and student finance that I could not afford to pay out-of-pocket for my college expenses.... Read More

NLU does not stand by their students. They took my money but they wouldnt allow me to graduate. In my courses, my grades were all As. Im do not recommend this university. They will tell you what you want to hear to get you in. Many other superior colleges & universities to consider.

National Louis University provided me with a great education. I felt that I was prepared to be a teacher when I graduated. The faculty was knowledgeable and helpful. I learned a lot from my professors. They guided me to a great student teaching experience and eventually I got a job at the school that I student taught at. The overall experience was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone.

National Louis University at the time was a good school to obtain a degree from. I told classes at night about two days a week. The professors were very knowledgeable in their field. it was know as the "teacher" school because those who came were mostly majoring in education. I started out that way as well. You had advisor that you met and guided you in your education journey. What I would have benefited most is if they had a career advisor connected to your degree program. I graduated and I didn't... I would recommend going to another school to really be prepared to be a teacher. I do not recommend the Chicago campus. I had some excellent teachers but overall the program was not a high level.

Review of NLU What is NLU? It is not a university, college, or school. It is a business committing fraud. I want everyone to hear my story about studying at NLU, since there is absolutely no reason why it should even exist. I ended up going to NLU, since the school I was originally going to go to, Northeastern Illinois University, dragged its feet with the final part of my application. I knew NEIU was ranked according to US News and World Report, and NLU was not ranked. I ended up going to NLU, and... Read More

The small online cohort that I am a part of as I pursue my masters with National Louis University s phenomenal. The professors are always available for to help with assignments or offer insight, even for outside of class, career issues and questions. I feel close to the faculty and have enjoyed exploring more about becoming a leader in my school.

It has been a long time since I graduated (26y) but I liked tha fact that the school was ethnically diverse, which helped me understand many cultures and get to know a lot of people. The school needed a better campus and by now I hope the campus is much better. Chicago it is a great city. I enjoyed the city life.

National -Louis University has a wonderful Masters program for adult students. The staff was knowledgeable and really worked with the individual student to ensure success. The professors seemed to understand the needs of adult students and were flexible when it related to assignments and schedules. I attended most of my classes at a satellite location, but a few classes were only held at the main campus in Chicago. I would highly recommend National -Louis University for adult students who are looking... Read More

Degree: Special Education

I attended NLU to get my special education LBS1 endorsement. I found one of the courses to be life changing. One of the courses was a complete waste of time. Another course was ok. I liked the convenience of completing online courses. I was dissatisfied with the organization. Courses were canceled after they had given access to course website. I also started a second degree in leadership. I was told that it would be online. It was then switched to blended. If you are flexible, this can be a fine... Read More
