I did not feel Temple University prepared me for my career and was not offered any career support once I graduated. I was not able to earn any money over $12 hourly until I began to pursue my Masters Degree. I also was not eligible to get into Temples Masters of Psych. program because I went to their undergraduate program for psychology and they said they do not accept any of the students from their undergrad into their Masters Program. My time at Temple University thought me a lot- both academically and introspectively. In my first year of undergraduate studies as a Psych-Gen Major, I had great difficulty with a statistics course. However, the difficulty I faced did not serve as a deterrent. Realizing that I would fail the course for that semester and adversely impact my cumulative GPA, my Student-Teacher/ professor and I came up with a contingency plan: make-up the course during a later semester to override the poor grade. In... Read More the interim, my professor and I met bi-weekly for tutoring sessions to prepare me for the anticipated make-up course/semester hours. During those tutoring sessions, we developed a backwards design review plan where we reviewed/studied the coursework and I took practice exams in hopes of my excelling during this second chance. A year later, I was ready to commit to the previously failed statistics course with an improved academic perspective-allowing me to pass the course. Overcoming that academic hardship convinced me to focus, allowing me to be successful in my Psychology Major Coursework in the final two years of my undergraduate career. I believe that hands-on initiative take by my professor and I in just a large University truly steered me back into academic focus. Thereafter, upon obtaining my undergraduate degree I shaped a professional path. In my previous workforce opportunity as a Human Resources Assistant, I strengthened my interpersonal skills and increased my work responsibilities through on-boarding newly acquired staff to our company's ever-changing policies. One of my major roles was to ensure newly hired staff understood, accepted and committed to the strategic mission and business transformation agenda in order to continuously build my organization. By in excelling in this competent of this role as of late October 2014, I grew into an ad-hoc manager. As an ad-hoc manager I supervised a young adult student in an internship capacity. As this high school students supervisor and main point of contact, I worked with her to develop her technical (job responsibilities and her usage of job tools), and professional skills (judgment, work efficiency, reliability, strengthening her willingness to learn- shaping her adaptability). This experience taught me how to effectively instruct and guide a young person in a way that is cross-functional and respectful. Outside of my professional path, in October 2014 I also begun to volunteer my Alma Mater. Temple University reached out to me, to become a Brand/ University ambassador. As an ambassador, I speak with prospective college students about my academic and social experiences while attending Temple as it has made a huge impact on me as I have been TEMPLE Made- Go Class of 2010..

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Temple. It is a diverse and humble school that really caters to everyone. While some of its institutions, such as the financial aid office, were not as efficient as they could be, Temple always made me feel at home. I had excellent professors and learned an excellent mix of "book knowledge" and "street knowledge". I loved the honors psychology program and the general university honors programs. They provided a small-school feeling with all the benefits of the big university.... Read More I do wish, however, that there were more counselling options and experiences in the psychology program, as opposed to research experiences. The research psychology aspect at Temple is very well developed, but it would be nice to offer jobs/internships/senior projects more catered to those interested in clinical psychology.

Honestly, Temple was my "back-up" school. I got into my first and second choice (SCAD and SVA), but they were too expensive. Temple was my back-up due to cost and location; I could commute. I didn't have a great college experience, since everything catered on to on-campus students even though the school is mostly commuters; the school was unclear about nearly everything possible; and the staff were often rude.

I switched majors a couple of times. If I hadn't, I would have switched to neuroscience, and if I could choose, would major in that from the start.

I'd advise them to save money during high school and then go to a community college to get a degree in something in the health care field, then get a bachelor's degree once they have a steady income. That's what I would have done if I had known better.
