The professors here are extremely helpful and want you to succeed. At the same time they are constantly challenge you and make sure that you are growing in your abilities. It's the perfect combination. Students, especially the graduate instructional community, are so helpful and kind. It really feels like a family.

The main pros of the Communication Studies graduate program are the career preparedness and the faculty support. Each faculty member is approachable and supportive, while also being challenging and corrective. There is an excellent balance between encouragement and constructive criticism. Additionally, I feel like I have become a stronger critical thinker and am much more prepared for any career I choose. Knowing how to communicate competently is the majority of the battle. Texas State University is a great graduate school for communication studies. The faculty are always available and willing to help. The program offers a wide variety of courses for students to choose from in both rhetoric and empirical areas of interest. The teaching assistant option is something that everyone should look into, it gives you more time with faculty as well as lets you learn the importance of effective teaching. PROS: Easy to make friends, laid back atmosphere, interesting class offerings, beautiful campus, ability to build rapport with professors. CONS: Not ideal for working professionals, very theory-based so there is a lack of practical application, lack of career development.
