There are some good professors at UK and a few great ones. I would say an exception is if you are in mathematics or engineering and end up with one of the foreign professors there for research and are seemingly forced to teach a class; good luck understanding what they are saying. I attempted MA 109 three times and quit each time because the professor couldn't speak english. UK really needs better career counselors. The University of Kentucky is a great that has faculty that are willing to help students understand the course material, but also have opportunities to collaborate with them on research and study abroad trips. Regardless in the department that a student is studying in- a student will get good education and practical skills in their field. Read More UK and the many student organizations. It was one of my favorite memories from there. As far as student life here goes, Greek life, especially in southern schools is huge. However, there are many organizations that students can join such as Choristers if a student like singing or SnowCats if a student likes skiing. In any fashion, a student can find activities that they like to do on campus. Going back to the academics, I can speak to the Political Science department because I was a political science major. I had the opportunity as part of my program, to do an internship with the Kentucky State legislature. I also got to write an honor thesis and present it at a national conference in front of fellow researchers and professors. There are resources for students to do internships within their career path and job shadow. UK is just as good as any public or private college.

I wouldn't trade my days at the University of Kentucky for anything. I started off as a student-athlete who dedicated 25 plus hours each week to a sport and ended as a regular college with a double major. Entering my fourth and final year as "NARP" (non-athletic regular person) I can say that I found an instant network of colleagues to help advance my academic career. This new "college life" I experienced opened up doors to government connections that have helped me pursue my career in homeland security after I began an internship at the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. I obtained this internship from talking to professors in the political science department and together they were able to help me intern at KOHS during my fall and spring semester. UK offers great opportunities for any kind of student. Just show you are interested and connections will be made.
