My experience at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth was transformative, specifically because of the interdisciplinary strength of the Charlton College of Business and the College of Engineering. Being able to walk from a lecture on Financial Accounting to a lab on Data Structures allowed me to see the future of the industry—FinTech. I learned how to automate manual accounting processes and understand the backend architecture of the financial software that the world's biggest firms rely on.
Campus & Resources:
The "Corsair" community is tight-knit. I spent a lot of time in the MacLean Campus Center and the library's quiet study zones. The campus architecture is unique and brutalist, which creates a focused, "get-to-work" atmosphere that I actually grew to love.
Career Preparation:
The Career Center was a massive help. They understand that the South Coast and nearby Boston/Providence hubs are hungry for "hybrid" talent. Because of UMassD’s reputation, I felt fully prepared to speak the language of both CPAs and Software Engineers.
Final Verdict:
If you want a school that offers the resources of a large university system with the personal attention of a smaller campus, UMassD is it. It’s the perfect place to build a "future-proof" career. Go Corsairs!

UMass Dartmouth isn't a terrible university in the campus aspect (environment is nice). The faculty members guiding students needs work. I graduated as a dual major from computer / electrical engineering but there were alot of times where I needed to fight to graduate with both degrees and not because I had bad grades it was because the advising and mentoring was all screwed up. The school does give away stoles for graduation as well but they are first come first serve meaning yet again students closer to the school are favored. This school has zero communication. I am an older student who decided to go back to college. This will be third college I have attended and it’s also one of the worst. It doesn’t matter how many times you call or email someone from any department, you will be lucky to receive a response. Most things are time sensitive, so it really screws you over. Professors have leeway to call a number grade any letter grade they see fit, and there is no recourse because apparently this is okay and is allowed.... Read More The majority of my professors do not engage with us in anyway shape or form, and most do not seem to care if you succeed or not. As a fully online student, it’s like I do not exist, as I am never informed of services available to me or important names, emails, or phone numbers I might need to know. I have to spend time trying to find this stuff out and oftentimes it’s too late. Honestly, I wish I could go back in time and choose another school. I have been working so hard trying to better my life and it feels like this school has derailed any chance I ever even had. This is a totally inadequate program. I wanted to become a History teacher but because that is a saturated market I was encouraged to get a Special Education add-on license. It has been the worst experience of my life and I wish I had never heard of this program or its head, Traci Almeida. I learned to write a basic IEP, which is of little value because they are different at every district and state and a lesson plan. What I didn't learn was concrete proven methods for helping students with disabilities... Read More and learning differences. I have had to spend so much time reading books and watching videos to try to learn the very things this program should have taught me. I earned straight A's but I am woefully unqualified to assist these students. I have had to reinvent the wheel for every lesson and it has lead to a great deal of misery. So, now I am thousands of dollars in debt, extremely unhappy and trying to figure out what I am going to tell a parent at an IEP meeting when they ask how I plan to service their child with dyslexia. I have no idea. Stay away from this program. Go to Bridgewater. It's the same cost for a superior education and support system.

The Graphic Design program at Umass Dartmouth was wonderful. The professor were extremely engaging, knowledgeable, and truly cared about their students. The courses were both rewarding and challenging. Additionally, the price is affordable as far as higher education goes. The campus can be somewhat depressing looking and the location isn't amazing, but I was able to make quite a few friends within my program. The campus took a while to grow accustom to and can be a little abrasive at first. The ascetic grows on you over the years and by the end you'll find it looking very beautiful with all its fields and contrasting concrete buildings. The professors were run of the mill and left a little bit to be desired. Over all my experience was a positive one with plenty of people to make it feel like you are not just at some small commuter college. Making it very easy to make friends and connections.

Making it difficult to really get a good feel for the rest of the schools programs. Most of the comments i hear about the other programs come from the engineering and nursing fields. All of which I have heard great things about and have some really great professors.

This school is pretty horrible. Upon entering it looks like a prison. Very dark cloud hanging over the school on most days. I had to take a medical leave and they still charged me for the semester. Someone had taken my student ID and used my meal plan while I was on leave and they say its my fault and have to pay. I am white. I was uncomfortable witnessing some of these disgusting displays of students. On more than one occasion saw a car driving around the look playing what sounded like Civil war... Read More songs about killing African Americans. Saw derogatory banners posted around the school directed at African americans. I can only imagine how African American students must have felt. The food options are horrible and the housing is poor. The Dells, living area for upper classmen is patrolled as if we entered martial law. The bursers office likes to play telephone tag and send you to different offices only for them to send you back. A bunch of people who clearly dont want to do their jobs. This school is a mess and would advise anyone to stay far away.
