I attended the UW-Milwaukee and completed my bachelor's in Fine Arts with emphasis in Graphic Design in 2018. Looking back on the time I spent there, I feel that I did not learn much from majority of my teachers. My teachers were unfocused, lacked a sense of care for the subjects they taught and often spoke of how much they just wanted to retire. I think UW Milwaukee has a great campus. It is within a 2-4 block radius, which for someone like me who likes smaller campus' was perfect. while it was on the larger side of smaller I didn't mind it. I spend a lot of my time doing online classes & commuted in due to living in the area & having transferred in from UW Stevens Point. I transferred into Milwaukee for their Radiologic Technologist program, where after I had been accepted into a program I never set foot on the UWM campus again. Partly... Read More because of covid. Some of their online classes were harder due to professors having a very difficult accent to understand. In person classes I attended all had labs which were very hands on.

I really liked how many different options for classes I had to fulfill the requirements I needed to graduate. I ended up graduating with a minor in Art history as well, and I thoroughly enjoyed every professor I had in the art history department. Psychology was my major, and I will say that the general courses needed were not great. I say this because of large class sizes, and I experienced many professors who didn't really teach, but instead read off of their PowerPoint slides. Once I got into more... Read More specialized classes for Psychology, the courses got better and felt like they had more quality. I was a commuter to campus, and I had easy access to a shuttle. But I will say I often felt disconnected from my peers who lived on campus. It was hard as a commuter student to feel involved on the events that would happen on campus.

Being at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee was a memorable one. I learned a lot about myself, all while really enjoying all that the city and the university had to offer. I was also fortunate enough to be able to study abroad, and that I think to this day was the best time of my life. Sometimes while at school, I did feel like they were more focused on making money off you part than anything else. I felt like that because their dorms are very, very expensive and all the food places are the same. I would say that overall the school was very quality and I felt that it was worth my time to have gone there. The city of Milwaukee is excellent, it does get a little old after you have spent some time there, and I still consider Milwaukee to be my home, and I think I will always feel that way. I would recommend going to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

UWM's nursing program is already competitive and on top of that the program is not the greatest. It's kind of sad to know that other schools already start NCLEX prep day 1 of nursing school while we get it on our last semester of the nursing program before graduating. The classes are not the best. I've learned more from the Saunders book while studying for the nclex in 4 months than 2 years in nursing school. If you want to go into UWM's nursing program, i suggest you start nclex prep the same day... Read More you start nursing school. I give high marks to the programs I majored but I want to use this review to highlight the Religious Studies Program. The program is one of the best values at UW-Milwaukee. The program has great faculty, amazing extra curricular opportunities including a student organization, an academic research conference for undergrads and Masters students and annual academic talks. There are some great professors but also some really lackluster ones. The costs are somewhat affordable for instate students but you should know what you are coming here for (or at least an idea) before enrolling.

I love UWM, but I have say that the Nursing program was not the best. My year was in the middle of the curriculum change and it pretty much affected all the students throughout the whole nursing program. In terms of preparing the students for the NCLEX, UWM is not the best. We didnt start prepping for the NCLEX until my last semester. Barely learned a thing. No lie all I cared about was to pass the class and graduate. The ATI class that was required in the last semester was useless to me. It sucks... I've talked to many nurses and they're had NCLEX prep ever since the first semester of their nursing program. I really wish UWM would change the way they do this. Many students including myself are struggling to pass the Nclex.

Academics is disappointing (BUS.) The professors are 10+ years behind the industry. Ad-junct professors are afraid to grade seriously in fear of criticism. No professors stand out as astonishing but rather mediocre and a forgettable experience. The business schools tenured professors lack of modern experience. Their partnership with SAP means you will be forced to learn SAP software, which is known for being bad. Dont expect this to be good resume material. Lack of competence and hidden costs leave... Read More a negative impression. You will be charged for anything and everything. Transportation is like the DMV but run by children with a god-complex. They are rude, unprofessional and will treat people as if they are nothing. If you get a parking ticket and try to appeal, you will be denied -- there is no forgiveness for mistakes or accidents. I would recommend alternatives if you're able too. A degree from here is not a good ROI. Consider other universities for better professors/programs.

I have been attending the College of Nursing for 3 years now. What we have here is a group of embedded nurses who get hired to instruct and teach future nurses; however, most of these so-called teachers and instructors are not experienced in the classroom. I agree with many other students on this forum who state the teachers/instructors play favorites. I have seen students from my cohort pass a class where they received a "D" and were able to go on with the cohort, while other students were held... Read More back. There is myriad bias at the CON and unfortunately, this will stay the same until someone "cleans house."

Wow, I dont even know where to start..... Needless to say that all my pre-requisite courses with labs were baffling. You would expect to come to an organic chemistry lab with specific instructions and a knowledgable teacher/professor. Both of those things were missing.. half the time I would show up to lab and my TA wouldnt even be there til 5 minutes after class started. On top of that, the class had to practically guess on how to perform the lab.... Now lets talk about admittance to the Nursing... Read More Program itself... I am baffled as to how little they care about a students academics and how much they care about a one and a half page response to a guided question with no clear answer. I personally have heard of students getting C's in class and still getting into the nursing program over a student with A's. How does this happen? Ill tell you how. You have a biased nursing commitee that simply cares about how well you answered the application question. In addition this school pays no regard to hands on capabilities but would rather throw a 100 question exam in front of you and judge you based off how well you can read and answer questions.

DO NOT recommend UWM's nursing program to anyone. The program provides VERY limited resources for all students. In addition, the program coordinators did not listen to any of our requests or concerns throughout the program (more time to practice nursing skills, more guidance with nursing skills, less time walking through butterfly gardens in our public health rotation). Moving onto NCLEX- UWM has a 73% pass rate, while just about every other school has a 93% or higher pass rate. Other schools in... Read More the greater Milwaukee area start NCLEX practice tests on day 1 of nursing school... UWM? Not a chance. We did our first practice NCLEX exam in our last semester. We did only one more after that, and it was THE SAME EXACT TEST! I'm sparing you from so many details and terrible stories about rude instructors, a semester-long public health clinical rotation in a clinic that we weren't even allowed to step foot in, and countless nights of writing irrelevant papers (ex: a 10 page paper about what it was like to ride the city busy throughout Milwaukee). I probably actually learned from about three instructors throughout my four semesters UWM's nursing program. I hope that UWM gets it together soon, but I seriously would not recommend the school to a single person.

With a pass rate of 74% for the year 2017, I highly encourage people to look elsewhere if you are searching for a college to obtain your BSN from. UWM is currently in the middle of changing their curriculum at the students' expense and overall experience. The college needs to update their simulation lab, change how skills are taught and tested, and increase their state pass rates. Lubar's School of Business was a high quality program with many dedicated faulty members. I highly recommend the school to anyone who wants an affordable education with many outside the classroom opportunities. Milwaukee is a great city and it is very easy to get around the compact campus. The summer months offer the most cultural activities including Summerfest, one of the biggest music festivals in the world.
