From my personal point of view as an African American attending a PWI, it was okay. There were some times in school where I felt the racism was a little over the top, but most of that was outside the school in the city. I made plenty of friends there, so the social life is pretty good in my opinion. I still talk to some of them to this day, after I graduated 6 years ago.

Overall, not a bad school. Would this be a top choice or a first pick? Only if you grew up around the area in my opinion. Outside of that, this is definitely a good second or third choice.

Valdosta State University (VSU) is an amazing place to study. While many people overlook it due to its size it is precisely its size that make it so much better. The professors take their time to not only teach but connect with their students. The biggest classes are around a hundred students, big enough to blend in but not enough to get lost. Read More tough as it is requires a lot of explanation and revisiting of topics; the department turns into this mid-size community helping one learn as much as possible, teachers tutor one on one, piers tutor each others, study sessions are consistently available, and often times materials such as textbooks are shared. In a program where you spend on average 8-10 hrs a day studying you'll never feel unsupported, someone always be willing to help. The chemistry department reflects VSU as a whole, so where ever you are at on campus you will be at home. There will be some bumps as it is expected with any learning institution but my good experience by far out weighed the bad.

As an undergraduate student at Valdosta State University, I was able to transfer nearly all of the credits I earned by completing an Associate of Applied Science in Business Administration to my Organizational Leadership degree. During my time with the university, I was instructed by approximately fifteen different professors. Only one professor did not provide me with helpful feedback on my assignments. While an online format may seem like a different experience to many, Valdosta's faculty and staff go above and beyond to replicate an in-class experience online.

Valdosta has one of the most beautiful campuses in Georgia. The town is small, but you will certainly keep your hands full with school activities, events, and organizations. The people that I met while on campus are still some of the most influential people I have encountered in my entire life. As far as the Mass Media program I think it is one of the best in the area. Valdosta's Media program is very hands on, so you have the opportunity to apply what you learned. Luckily there are also a few organizations... Read More on campus that will look great on any resume. Also, since the campus is so beautiful it is super easy to find somewhere to make a fun video or take great pictures. I will say Valdosta is in South Georgia so that comes with its own pros and cons. Con, it is South Georgia. Pro, it is only three hours from Atlanta, and it is right on the Florida border, so travelling is an option!

I thoroughly enjoyed the faculty in the Social Science Department. It is a smaller department, which I saw to be a benefit because professors were more hands-on. They took an interest in your well-being and your future. I really felt supported. However, I did not feel that degree of support from the school system as a whole. I often experienced problems with the financial aid office and the registration office. I often felt like there was a lack of interdepartmental communication at the university.... At times, staff members were rude and unknowledgeable about the federal requirements needed to satisfy paperwork obligations. Errors in both departments at times made me lose funding and receive funding late. This negatively impacted me, as I had to double up on classes to be able to finish my degree on time. I would not recommend this university to anyone.

The professors of this Marriage & Family Therapy program challenge you in ways that are needed. The program helps you to understand relational and familial issues from very different points of view while pushing you to embrace the diverse backgrounds of the people around you and the clients you will one day be in a position to help. I have not begun to see clients yet but I am excited and less nervous because the professors are licensed MFTs that serve as practicum supervisors who will help guide us through the process of beginning to see clients.

Valdosta State University is nothing short of amazing. It is ideally located just 20 miles from Florida and just a 3 hour drive to Atlanta or Savannah. The campus is impressively designed with Spanish architecture and it attracts prospective students with the astonishing Front Lawn that is surrounded by palm trees. Even though I started out as a Psychology major, I ended up graduating with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. I believe that the professors I had allowed me to gain a full understanding of my passion towards criminal justice. I was fortunate enough to be able to study abroad with the psychology department and staff. Studying abroad allowed me to gain appreciation towards different cultures. My time at Valdosta State University included some of the best years of my life that have sculpted me into the scholarly, young woman that I am today.

The Masters Program in School Counseling at Valdosta State University prepared me for my career as a School Counselor. The rigor of the coursework was challenging and prepared you to pass the Comprehensive Exam, as well as the state certification test. 100% of the graduates pass all tests the first try and obtain jobs in this career field. Valdosta state is a very accredited school. I could not have chosen a better school than Valdosta State University, and this has been confirmed since I graduated.
