Western Carolina University is a good school to start your undergraduate career in chemistry. The faculty are helpful and there is a 1:10 ratio of professors to students when you get to higher levels of study. This allows more one on one time if you need help with understanding difficult material.

WCU is a great school if you're self driven and not easily distracted. A lot of students there are, honestly, fairly lazy, and it's easy to get dragged down if you can't focus yourself. The classes are high quality, the teachers are great (and are reprimanded when they're not). The campus is beautiful and easy to get around, though watch out for ice and slush in the winter.

It was the perfect place for an engaging, challenging, and enjoyable undergraduate experience. It earns the place of the top adventure college in the nation fairly with all the outdoor activities avaliable on and off campus.

Its a great place to finish growing up. the emphasis on learning instead of research is a welcome change from most other universities. it is a small college so you get more time with professors.

WCU is a great school, though it's easy to fall behind and make less than amazing grades if you aren't a self motivated person. The campus is beautiful, though sometimes I wish they would spend less money renovating things like the fountain and more money fixing up some of the dorms, especially the freshman dorms. There are good restaurant choices on campus, and also a convenience store and dining hall.

The faculty and staff of my graduate program really advocates and promotes for student success. The program takes account of students's evaluations/feedback to make improvements to the program. There is a good faculty to student ratio for each cohort and because of the location of our clinical sites, there is no competition obtaining clinical cases with other medical students. Regarding cons of my graduate program, the only issue I came across was frequent change in class schedules from accommodating... Read More

While WCU is currently considered a small school, its student body is growing every year and has just reached its 10,000 student mark! This School is well known for is nursing, teaching, and environmental programs but offers a wide variety of programs/ The faculty and staff are very serious about helping enhance you school experience and are available at all times, I used this resource many times and was never disappointed. This program has been an excellent fit for me as a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology Master's program. The faculty are very involved and driven to make sure that students succeed here. It is a smaller school and is in the mountains so it's a bit secluded, but the university has a wealth of resources for students to utilize. There is a heavy workload but everything students have to do helps develop them personally and professionally. Students have many opportunities to seek out research... Read More

One of the major benefits of the program is the full-time faculty members who are revitalizing the program. A con is the balance between evening, morning, and online courses offered.

I am currently in the Nurse Anesthesia program. The professors of my program are CRNAs themselves and all have further doctorate degrees. They are extremely helpful in all areas of my education. My program currently has a 100% pass rate when it comes to passing boards--big decision maker for me. No complaints thus far.

Our Program was recently NASPAA accredidated, which is a huge plus when obtaining a Masters Degree. The professors of our program are very professional, yet approachable when pertaining to our work. As far as cons of the program, the biggest one is having to purchase so many expensive books.

I am extremely satisfied with my choice of graduate program. By participating in my dietetic internship through WCU, I will earn credits toward my graduate degree. I will complete my Master of Health Science in Nutrition in one-and-a-half years, while also fulfilling requirements to become a registered dietitian. My internship director/academic adviser could not be more willing to help her students get great experiences and is an excellent resource for any questions I have. Although WCU is one of... Read More

The M.P.A program at Western Carolina University is exceptional. The program was just recently accredited by NASPA for 7 years, which is the maximum amount of time a program can receive at one time, which is a very big deal. The faculty in the department are amazing and very insightful and helpful. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. The area is beautiful, and WCU is the #1 college for outdoor activities. The only con I can honestly think of is the financial aid situation for graduate students.... Read More

The faculty and staff in the CSD program at WCU are absolutely top notch. They care about every student, and they all know you by name. They will do everything within their power to make sure you succeed in the program and when you graduate and move toward your career as an SLP. The academics and the people are all I could ever ask for. BUT if you're not used to small town living, Cullowhee is probably not the place you want to be.
