I attended WGU for about a year under the BS accounting program. I completed 12 classes towards that degree, then I made it to Inter. Acct 1 and it stopped me right in my tracks. I have an associates in accounting and work in accounting. However, given my past experience and education for accounting I was not able to make it through that program. I have now dropped out and will try to go back for the BSMG degree next year. So is WGU a good school? Overall I was pleased with the school. I hate I wasn't... As someone who was directly responsible for making hiring decisions I gave very little weight to online degrees, until now. WGU has completely changed my mind about the potential of getting a good education from an online university. I completely and wholeheartedly recommend WGU for **highly** motivated self learners.

This university is a JOKE. They baby you and have to call you once a week for the first term and bug you so bad if you miss a call. Anita is extremely unprofessional and told me I didn't take my schooling seriously. Excuse me, but I PAY for you to have a job. I had family health issues that got me behind a bit and this place is not sympathetic at all. I researched several online MBA Healthcare Management programs and chose Western Governors University for its low cost, high academic standards and flexibility. WGU was the right choice for me as I am a highly independent learner and prefer to go at my own pace through classes. I had an excellent experience with WGU. The courses were very challenging. I transferred credits from credits in from 3 other hard-sided universities in Colorado and Montana due to life and interest changes. I ended up finishing both my bachelors in Business Management and my MBA through WGU because it was so high quality. If this were a private company on the stock exchange, I would invest in their stock due to the value, efficiency, and quality of the education they are delivering. I am a non-traditional student with a lot of business experience, and recognize this value based on the rigor of my work requirements. WGU uses evidence-based certification and simulation programs that most Universities also use in their curriculum. The access to those certifications to enhance the degree was of incredible value as well (PHR, Project Management, etc.).

I would not do this school because they cannot get my accommodations right and tried to find other alternatives. The only solution is that I retake the test again, which was not helpful and did not resolve the issue. The test proctors are a joke and do not follow rules especially when it comes from disabled students. This school is unstructured and does not respect their students especially when it comes to accommodations. If you do not believe me, try it out for a while and you will see the truth.... I really loved WGU's Bachelor of Information Technology program. I transferred in an Associate degree, accelerated, got caught up by life and still finished in the listed 2 1/2 years. Read More if its not, at least in IT, you have certs to back up your knowledge too - It is HARD, even with prior knowledge. - Your mentor works for you, if you dont get along or they arent giving you what you need, ask to be moved. - Student services can help with almost anything, or point you to who can. I see all these comments about the FASFA's grad rate. Please actually read that statistic, it is percentage of FIRST TIME college attendees that go on the graduate at that college. WGU very rarely even takes anyone with zero college experience. They would need tons of work experience in field. So that stat means practically nothing. And if you have no college experience and expect online to be "easier" you will fail out of WGU. WGU is accredited, credits do transfer out (i was contemplating moving after I started my masters degree but decided to stay), and they are taken for grad school requirements. I should be done with my masters in a year and Im already talking to my doctoral school. No issues. This is not an "academic focused" school. Not for research and theory. Its real life, real skills. Industry certification.

I was enrolled in WGU, Business Administration with a focus in Human Resources about two years ago. The courses were tough, and my mentors were good. I was in the process of re-enrolling, but this process is so much more difficulty and time consuming. Financial aid is very unresponsive to phone calls and emails. They re-request information, thereby pushing your start date 30 days at a time. The first time around, I was able to start classes in 45 days. This time is was going to be 120 days. I have... Had I known that this process was going to be slow and frustrating, I would have looked closer to home to finished my degree.

I am just writing to warn people about the radically different admissions process the school uses, this is not a traditional University. They will not evaluate transcripts until you have received your degree and it is on the transcript. There is no way to evaluate the school and know that you will be accepted until you have already finished your previous Bachelors program long after you would have been admitted into any other traditional master's program. Read More email question for 40 days and I had to call and get a different counselor The first counselor told me I was qualified for a specific IT program based on my work experience, the second counselor said that actually an internal group had denied me for that program but the first counselor never bothered to tell me. I thought I was all lined up and ready to go and 40 days later I find out differently I don't qualify for the program. I know this is long but I have to mention a couple more things. I have three excellent letters of recommendation from prominent PhD leaders in the Utah area, but they are useless at Western Governors because they don't look at letters of recommendation. Further I've no people at Adobe and other high-profile companies that really have no opinion of some of the newer degrees at Western Governors so they don't really carry much weight. I was told by a pretty important person at Adobe and Lehi that simply getting a Microsoft Azure machine learning certification what count a lot more than the data mining program at Western Governors. Reading through reviews it sounds like some of the other programs like nursing are pretty good programs but just be aware this is not in any way a traditional University, does not have an academic focus., provides no opportunity to participate in research

Best value in education, hands down. Regionally accredited, not for profit school - meaning it is not a diploma mill - they by law do not turn a profit. I finished 50 credits in 5 months to earn my bachelors degree- one month later I was hired by the company I had been a contractor at for over 3 1/2 years. For those, like myself, who have been in and out of school but were unable to successfully commit to being a full-time student due to life's obligations then this is the university for you! You have to speak with your mentor every week and then every two weeks once you've passed a few courses. I felt like it was a handholding requirement, and quite unnecessary. I did have to switch mentors initially due to my personal preference and a notable personality difference, but I have come to accept the VERY short check-ins as a minor stipulation and I do like my mentor, so it's okay.
