I'm a newcomer in this university and in this program. I like this university specially the international event that are held in that.

The professors really seemed to care about my learning and retention of the material. I appreciated that the majority of my grades came from papers written rather than examinations, as I learn more from writing and applying the course material versus memory and regurgitation. I wish the University helped with placement in external internships.

I have only taken two courses at Western Michigan and I have been slightly disappointed with them. The standard of teaching is lower than that at my undergraduate university. However, I have encountered several very competent professors and look forward to taking courses from them. I feel that the overall program is well put-together and I am excited to complete it. Western Michigan has also been great at working with me on financial aid. I had to adjust my aid a couple of times and they were gracious... Read More

So far, I have very few qualms with my master's program. The professors have been extremely knowledgeable and approachable, thus far. I am content with my course selections and am intrigued to learn more. I appreciate the fact that there are many diverse programs within one main Counseling Program, so students receive a broad understanding of the helping profession.

Degree: Counseling

The most salient pro that comes to mind is the diversity in my program. I am aware as a counselor that I will be encountering many individuals from different cultural and even socioeconomic backgrounds than myself. Having a diverse array of students in the programs helps me to consider may issues that I may not be as competent in. A con I would say is the lack of help one receives from the staff. As far as the programs goes I had to speak with other students in the program about how to gather enough... Read More

Degree: Counseling

Pros: Accredited, many adjunct faculty who bring real world experience and information to the classroom. Cons: Expensive, tedious, limited resources for satellite campus graduate students (no library loaning, have to go to campus 45 miles away to acquire texts.)

The Counseling Psychology program at Western University Michigan is an excellent program. The emphasis that is placed on diversity is one of the things that drew me to this program. They are on the cutting edge of technology, with the new building, and high-tec clinic. Most importantly, they provide an environment where students feel supported. I have no doubt in my mind that this is the program for me and I would recommend anyone interested in Counseling Psychology to apply.

The faculty are great and provide a quality graduate education. The surrounding area, parking, safety, etc. could be improved on the downtown campus area.
