Going to school here was fine, but I’m really here to review graduation and honestly, it was incredibly unorganized. Graduates were made to stand on a tennis court in the sun for nearly two hours. Everything felt rushed, and many people left early because of the heat and poor planning. After traveling 10 hours for this experience, it was beyond disappointing.
Graduation should not be held outside in extreme heat, especially for such an important milestone. A graduate even fainted, which only added... Read More to the chaos. It was a complete hot mess, and I truly hope the new president makes major changes moving forward. We work far too hard, especially as graduate and master’s students, to not have the best graduation experience possible.
To make matters worse, rows of chairs were missing, and professors had to give up their own seats just to ensure graduates had somewhere to sit. The entire event felt more like a poorly planned high school graduation than a ceremony honoring advanced degrees. As a master’s student, this experience felt frustrating, disappointing, and honestly unacceptable.

I attended this university from 2021 through 2025, starting during the tail-end of the pandemic. While the initial transition to online and hybrid learning was smooth, the support systems behind the scenes were consistently lacking.

The Good:
The coursework itself was manageable, and the shift to hybrid learning was technically well-executed in the beginning. Many of the professors in the Psychology department were helpful and gave great feedback which allowed me to become better in my course work... Read More and understanding.

The Bad:
Advising & Administration - This was the most frustrating part of my degree. My advisor was frequently dismissive. When I sought guidance on course sequencing for higher-level classes, I was told to "just choose some" without professional input. This lack of guidance makes navigating degree requirements unnecessarily stressful. This advisor then left suddenly which left their workload to other advisors, at the end of my time at the university I talked to several different advisors which many didnt know what courses where availble for the semester or were rude and dismissive.

Unfair Academic Policies: Several professors relied heavily on flawed AI-detection software. There was a rigid "15% threshold" rule; if a paper triggered that number, often it was an automatic failure with no room for appeal or discussion. (unless taken out of the classroom) It created an environment of anxiety rather than learning.

Systems & Security: In my final year, a major cybersecurity attack/data breach crippled the university's infrastructure. Systems were down for months, and even now, they are still struggling to rebuild as they could not .

The education is fine, but be prepared to be your own advocate. Don’t expect much help from the administration, and be wary of the outdated tech infrastructure.

WNMU MSW program has been a great experience overall. For an online program, the quality and rigor of the academic program is great. Some really great professors and instructors who bring a lot to the classroom and are very engaged. I am not finished yet, but do feel I will be well prepared upon graduation. The two biggest concerns/complaints I have regarding the MSW program center around academic advising and support/assistance with locating field placements. I believe I am on my 4th advisor in... Read More 2 years. Luckily, I'm a self-starter and motivated individual who wouldn't need to rely heavily on academic advisement anyway. Second, while I do currently reside overseas as a military spouse, finding a field placement has been a challenge. They are transparent at the outset stating that students need to locate their own, however, I do believe that part of the academic advisors role in these instances is to converse and brainstorm with, and support a student, in doing these. I was literally told "maybe you should consider switching to another program." Not the kind of support I was hoping for at that juncture in my degree.

I have been at WNMU (as a virtual/online graduate student) since the summer of 2018. I have had such a great experience. Yes, there have been some changes, as one other reviewer wrote, but they have all been for the better. I feel that since I began this program, the quality has only improved. We do a lot of meetings online through Zoom, so you actually see your classmates and professors. Each professor I have had has been so responsive and helpful, and I feel that they will really support me even... Read More after I graduate. I would highly recommend WNMU to anyone looking to get their master's in social work. The online format creates a flexible schedule for students, and it is also one of the most affordable programs that I found.

Seems like my issue keeps happening over and over. They request you to buy books they don't use during class or to buy books with access cards that are unnecessary and never used. When you complain they answer that books recommended by your instructor are useful for your career no matter what. It's just too bad the money to buy those expensive books doesn't come out of their pockets. I'm sure if it did their answer would be different. They will tell you that they will let everyone know so that it won't happen again. It's a lie and just a way of keeping you quiet. Persist.

I loved being able to attend classes online. This degree program was primarily online. Online classes afford me the time to complete my work and not have to take time off to attend classes. I am also able to spend time with my family then complete class requirements and responsibilities later in the evening or early in the morning. I was able to fit it in on my time.
