From August, 2008 to May, 2012 I attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and majored in Dramatic Writing. I graduated with a BA in Dramatic Writing and a minor in Producing. Read More your peers at Tisch, its essential to immerse yourself in the community and participate in as many social and academic programs as you can. Unlike other schools, NYU has a diverse community, but in order to engage with that community you must seek out those opportunities. Additionally, NYU has many student resources, but to utilize them you must actively find them and take advantage of their availability. For instance, there was several programs available to first generation and multicultural students at NYU that I was unaware of and regret not participating in. I also should have utilized more of NYU's student services, such as tutoring at the Learning Center. In conclusion, my experience at Tisch/NYU taught me that I needed to be more proactive and assertive in pursuing my goals and interests. While I sometimes wish I had attended a smaller institution, I'm grateful for the experience NYU taught me in becoming an independent and assertive individual.

New York University was not a friendly place to be for students who were not affluent. Financial aid was severely limited, and it was easy to feel like an outsider as I had to work multiple jobs to keep myself enrolled and fed. This meant I did not get to experience college life or really even get to engage with my studies because I was just trying to make enough to get something to eat. I believe the university needs to do a lot more to support its lower middle-class and working class students financially and emotionally if it wants to have socio-economic diversity on its campus.

NYU Tisch Acting Department is a great place to be. There is so much to learn and you learn from the best. Tisch has the ability to accept many applicants because the program is so large which is what causes some problems and flaws because there are so many people. You have to really fight for the attention in certain studios because there are large grades. Other than that, you do have the chance to learn different techniques and methods in your later years.
