I just began my MA in school counseling online. The faculty, financial aide staff and the school advisor all has been of great help. They answer my questions and if they weren't sure of the answer, they would find out and get back with me. The school advisor made sure that I felt comfortable and made sure my online experience went as smooth as possible. They even found me a school in my area to complete my practicum. It was a dream come true to be apart of the student body at NYU. I struggled for a long time to decide whether or not to go back to school. The school counseling k-12 program at NYU Steinhardt is (in my opinion) the best program in the country. The professors are incredibly intelligent, attentive, and really believe in the program and the importance of well trained school counselors. The live online program made it possible for me to earn my Master's degree while juggling all of my other life responsibilities.... While NYU is a huge school, every professor in my program is extremely accessible. They want to aid in your learning process, and it is not anxiety inducing at all to ask questions. As expected with grad school, the work load involves a lot of reading and class discussion, but none of the assigned reading textbook/chapters seemed arbitrary. Steinhardt implements a curriculum which includes in-class lectures and assessments, as well as mandatory practicum and internships which enhance our experience in this program. The goal of most students by the end of the program is to become future competent school counselors.

I have had a wonderful experience in my time at New York University. I attended the online program. It was a lot of work, but you get more out of it than in a traditional online class or in a classroom setting. Their education shows in what they are teaching and they want you to succeed. The support in the school is more than expected too. My advisor reaches out to me to check in on how I am doing and if he can help. I have a placement specialist who reaches out to local area schools to help place me for my practicum and interview, which is a great relief having a professional do the legwork. I also have a mentor who is an established member of NYU. We are given a list of current professors who are mentors to graduate students. We pick our top three choices and submit them. Then our mentor contacts us and asks what we need from them to help pursue our dreams. I am very fortunate to be attending such a great school with a great program and staff.

The School Counseling program under the Applied Psychology department of Steinhardt has been an amazing experience so far. The professors are attentive, well-prepared and very well versed in their field. They come to class with a lot of field experience which allows the dense coursework to become more practical and tangible.
