What a terrible program. I’m surprised I made it the full 2 years. It could easily be done in a year and half. I can say I didn’t learn much here. I got random certifications on the way and read other books to aid my education. I would not recommend this program. I did harder and more complex research studies on undergrad than I did here. Didn’t read a single “assigned reading and still graduated with a 4.0. What a joke and a waste of time and money.

The University of Georgia provides a wonderful education for social workers looking to go into clinical practice. However, it may not adequately prepare someone for other types of social work. I learned a lot; however the 2 year full time program could have been condensed into 1 or 1.5 years. Overall it was good experience though.

Hello All. Currently, I am enrolled in at the University of Georgia's Master's of Social Work program. I attend the Gwinett campus which is significantly more diverse (e.g., ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, professional background, disability) than the main Athens campus. The thing I love the most about the Social Work program at the University of Georgia (Gwinett Campus) is the emphasis put on the students becoming healthy practitioners/social worker by helping us to develop... The MSW program at UGA is a great program. I had a smooth transition from undergrad to grad school and the work does not seem to be particularly difficult for me. However, the social work field as a whole seems to be lacking in diversity and curriculum surrounding race/ethnicity and intersectionality with respect to the aforementioned. This program is also good because you have two field placements. One the spring semester of your first year and the other one the entire second year. I would recommend... Read More

Excellent program. Professors truly passionate about subject matter and willing to assist students in figuring out interests. Wide variety of classes but a stronger emphasis placed on clinical track as opposed to macro focused study. Professors are available and willing to help.

The School of Social Work Program for MSW students is phenomenal. The teachers are considerate and genuinely interested in seeing the students do well in their careers. The school is a satellite campus which is located in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The atmosphere of the campus is distinguished and definitely orientated towards students that are already in their profession. With this scholarship I will pay back the loans that I needed in order to achieve my degree.

The program has several professors with great practical experience. I enjoy this part of the program. I feel that some of the coursework is pointless and does not further my understanding of the topics. The combination of the internship and coursework can be overwhelming at times.

The MSW program at UGA has a very prestigious history that will enable me to have more opportunities in particular fields. However, I found obtaining financial aid in any capacity was rather difficult to obtain, especially if you did not have any debt when entering the graduate program. This was slightly discouraging since I am someone who worked very hard to not accumulate debt in my undergrad and worked very hard for a 3.95 GPA.

The University of Georgia's Masters of Social Work (MSW) Program is overall a good value but not as academically rigorous as I expected. The program itself is diverse in terms of the student body, faculty, and specialty interests. The faculty offer great practical information (i.e. covering public policies that impact social workers and clients). The practicum experiences also inform students on the practicalities and knowledge needed to be successful and effective social workers. The MSW program,... Read More
