I had a really great experience during my time at Umass Lowell even though my first year was completely remote because of the pandemic. As a first-generation student, UML provided me with the financial support and resources (i.e available professors, mentors, study spaces, academic support clubs) that I need to exceed in my classes. Read More of my professors wanted to their students succeed. I never had bad experience with any professors, except 1. In other aspects, unrelated to the academics, UML is a diverse school and as a carribean/hispanic individual, I was able to feel like I fit in while also meeting and engaging with people from other backgrounds. I was fortunate enough to be able to dorm all throughout college. Some dorms are better and more modern than others, so in reality dorm selection should be based on each person's personal preference and the type of things they are willing to sacrifice (i.e suite style with personal bathroom or communal bathrooms). I found the social life to be a 7/10 (fall semester) or 8/10 (spring semester). Something to keep in mind is that UML is commuter school, so students often go home on the weekends and campus can be dead. UML also has several academic clubs, social clubs, and club sports. The more I immersed myself in campus life activities, the more I enjoyed Umass Lowell.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell was a great college for not only those who lived on campus, but for the working commuter students going to school full time , like me. There were great resources for students to be able to excel in their area of study with whatever support they needed whether it was homework or activities on campus. I am incredibly appreciative of the insight of my professors about their experiences experiences because it all impacted my decision to pursue social work instead. Had I not had the quality education that I had at Umass Lowell, I would not have realized that the field I studied was not the greatest fit for me. I am privileged to be working in the field of social work now because of my educational background that opened doors for me to enter into a professional field. I am now attending Rhode Island College in pursuit of maybe masters degree in social work sand wouldn't be able to have this opportunity if into weren't for the faculty support that I received at Umass Lowell.
