In my bachelors program after finishing career support was non existent. Nobody has called back for interviews and I have 20 years of experience, plus adding the degree I thought it would help but it hasn't. In the education program I missed a deadline for student teaching because I was hospitalized and they wouldn't budge on helping me instead they put me out another year even when I had a school willing to let me do it. You will not learn anything useful to your education degree unless you get... Read More a specific degree in English, math or science etc... Otherwise you get no training. After your last class they charge you full class price until you do your student teaching. You get know study guides for your desired teaching position you have to buy those. You would think with that 1600 they charge you for just being enrolled it would be provided. The professors in my masters program use bad grammar and nit pick a missed comma. They also want discussion posts to which in the masters program they don't specify exactly what they want and then email you the day its due at the last minute to redo it. Discussion posts are the most useless form of teaching there is. You are asked specific questions and everyone gives the same or very close answers and then you answer with something obscure because there is no way to answer in a way of discussing a topic. The teachers respond to one or two posts and thats it. Again its useless and the only thing they use it for is attendance, which can be taken by the weekly work you turn in. After my last class im transferring to a local college so im not a year out to do my student teaching. The university name does not help you attain a job, it actually hinders you from getting one. The only reason I came here is because my current job paid for some of my program, had I know the experience was going to be like this I would have just taken the loan needed to go elsewhere. In short go here. Oh I forgot, they will schedule guided teacher projects in the middle of summer. If you don't know how stupid that is then this school may be right for you. The school is also easy, too easy I have a 3.98, because of a nit picky teacher but will most likely have a 4.0 after my current class. I see people complaining they have bad grades and don't understand it, but C's after get degrees, which IMO shouldn't give degrees. The only good thing here is the accommodation office, I had seven surgeries this year and had to have extra time to complete some work, they give you seven days but even with chemo and staying in the hospital I was never more than a day late.

To start the school is expensive and their financial aid is a disaster. They do not follow federal guidelines when it comes to financial aid and I will be filing a complaint. Financial aid is supposed to be distributed per semester 14 days after the school receives it, all of it not portions. The school is supposed to be for working adults but you have no leeway in doing your work. Discussion posts, the most useless form of education can't be posted early, they are used for attendance. Instructors... Read More either don't respond or when they do their responses are usually full of mistakes in spelling and grammar. The discussion post is not meant to be a discussion and sadly every school uses them, it is an archaic method of teaching. Program: Secondary Education, is a rip off, you are not taught anything in the teaching field you choose. You are not taught how to prepare lesson plans, you try and get the school to help you with finding places to do your observations but schools don't respond to the University because of the University's name, so you are stuck on your own to do it. Now, there is a deadline for you to apply for student teaching, I missed mine because I was in the hospital and on accommodations from the school because of it. You will get call after call asking how your course is going and email after email about it but you will not get a reminder for important dates. They don't budge on it either, even though it is 6 months out, so you are stuck waiting a year to do student teaching. Back to financial aid and costs for a moment. While enrolled in the program and doing your student teaching, which you add to a portal after each session, they charge you full price to have access to it, that's roughly $1700 dollars every five weeks. As far as I know they are the only school that charges anywhere near to the full price while you are doing student teaching. You also don't get access to any materials from the school to study regarding your tests to be certified. This is yet another thing you have to pay for, which is not the way my local universities do it. One school of business that is in the top 2% provides you all the materials needed for your degree field in teaching, as they are also a college of education. In effect you pay for your student teaching and material to make sure you get your certification on the first try. Over all if I had known this I never would have signed up for this school. Do yourself a favor and ask the questions I've raised here regarding a schools program. Don't get screwed over like I did. Before I started my masters I got my degree here in business, and could not find a job, and their support system and hiring portal where jobs are posted is garbage. I have 20 plus years of management experience and that didn't even help. I'm pretty positive the name University of Phoenix will get you shunned away from jobs, my advice is to just leave it off the applications you fill out. Most of the professors they have who have earned PHD's are the best professors, the ones they hire as adjunct or those with only masters degrees are woefully insufficient. In six months at the start of 2025 I had six surgeries and continue with cancer treatments, and the only part of the university I would praise is the accommodations department, they seem to be the only ones who care about their jobs.

I did a fully online Master's program (besides student teaching in person) and it was probably the easiest and most affordable way for me to complete this degree. What worked for me might not work for others, though. This is not a program that will hold your hand through the journey and you won't have the personal touch of a professor who knows you and cares about your well-being. You will get emails and posts about what you need to get done, and then they will leave you alone to get it done. This... You won't get a ton of personalized feedback and spoon-fed instruction, but you will get a degree in probably the most convenient way possible. As a working adult, this program was great for me and was a great launching pad into the next move in my career. I still learned plenty, but it was self paced and self motivated. I loved it!

I feel this program has prepared me adequately for obtaining my certification. From the academic advisors to the instruction in my classes, everything and everyone has been prepared and organized to help me succeed. They have always answered my questions in a timely and professional manner. The amount of work required in each class wasn't overwhelming, but did keep me on my toes. Read More mortar college in this type of program as I learn better in face-to-face interaction, but this was not doable in my current situation as a military spouse. So this online program fit with my lifestyle. I would recommend this program to anyone considering going into teaching as a second career and who needs more individual freedom in their schedule.

When deciding to further my education I was apprehensive at first but working with the staff at the University of Phoenix eased all of my anxieties. The educational experience that I have received from the staff at the University of Phoenix has helped me prepare for becoming a confident educator. The online graduate program at University of Phoenix is so convenient because it is completely online. This allows me to easily attend classes without making drastic changes to my everyday routine. The faculty and staff at University of Phoenix are very helpful and knowledgeable in their given field. The graduate program that I am in is convenient because it is completely online. This gives me flexibility to take classes around my daily schedule. The staff and faculty at University of Phoenix are really nice and really helpful. I am able to ask questions and receive answers that go above and beyond my original desire. I attended the University of Phoenix for my Master's Degree in Secondary Education. I earned my bachelor from a traditional university. At the time, I was traveling quite a bit for work and working multiple jobs, so the online option was the best path for me to earn my master's degree in a timely manner. I found the coursework to be challenging with regularly having to post to the discussion forums, doing papers, group projects, research and supplemental reading. I was able to get the entire program completed in 20 months. Since I am in Illinois and the university is in Arizona, I needed to make sure that I did everything to meet the Illinois Teaching Certificate requirements. The local Regional Office of Education here was very helpful as was my advisor from University of Phoenix. The only problem I did run into was getting placed for student teaching. I did have to make some phone calls in order to get placed. In the end, I probably had to do a little more leg work on my own because they were in Arizona and I was in Illinois. When it came time to get my teaching certificate, I had no problems. In fact, I received my certificate as early as you could from the state of IL. I was able to find a full time teaching job for the next school year. I worked there for 3 years before moving on to another school. I will admit that I was worried that having a degree from an online program may be looked down upon and there were some fellow teachers who did make some comments. Since I have been teaching the last 5 years I now hear more and more teachers and administrators talking about online programs and how they are more the norm. Years ago most teacher’s did their master’s degrees at your traditional schools, then there were the cohort programs, now many of the classes are done online even by the traditional schools. I think as long as you are committed to finishing the program, focus on getting your certification requirements done for your state and are willing to do some of the administrative work on your own that the program is very beneficial. I am actually looking at some of their courses to pursue an additional certification.
