How We Rank "Most Affordable" Schools

%%YEAR%% Most Affordable Online %%LEVEL_NAME%% in %%PROGRAM_NAME%% Badge

The OnlineU research team manually collects and verifies tuition data for every school on our lists, ensuring you see accurate, up-to-date costs whether you're pursuing an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program. To qualify, schools must offer fully online degrees, hold institutional accreditation, and have verifiable enrollment data through the National Center for Education Statistics. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.

We prioritize schools that offer a consistent tuition rate across programs at the same degree level, so you're not caught off guard by unexpected price differences between majors, and for graduate programs we go a step further by individually calculating program costs since credit requirements and fees vary widely.

Stories Behind the Cheapest Online Master's Degrees in Exercise Science: An Editorial Analysis

A Career Ladder for PE Professionals

University of North Georgia

UNG is one of the few programs on the list that clearly targets licensed physical educators instead of trying to appeal to every type of kinesiology professional. Its Exercise Science and Physical Education pathways, Georgia certificate-upgrade guidance, action research project, and predictable two-year course rotation all reflect that audience. Rather than preparing students for a broad range of careers, UNG focuses on helping practicing educators advance within K-12 education.

Advanced Science for Practicing Professionals

Northern Kentucky University

While many exercise science master's programs are designed for recent graduates, NKU specifically targets practicing healthcare professionals and strength and conditioning specialists. Advanced coursework in ECG interpretation, exercise metabolism, sport analytics, injury prevention, and rehabilitation creates a noticeably more clinical curriculum than many competitors.

Designed for Career Changers

Concordia University Chicago

Few schools acknowledge that incoming students may have very different academic backgrounds. Concordia Chicago does. Students with prior exercise science coursework can complete a shorter 30-credit pathway, while career changers begin with a 36-credit curriculum that satisfies ACSM prerequisites. Its capstone is equally distinctive, allowing students to produce conference presentations, journal articles, professional websites, curriculum materials, or facility development plans rather than a traditional research paper.

I am currently working on my Master's degree in Exercise Science and so far it is going well. The advising office has been great with helping me register for classes, and waive classes that I substituted for others. The professors have also been great thus far. Of course graduate classes are more expensive, so I would say that has been the only downfall.

Overall, while the program had potential, it did not fully meet expectations for a master’s-level education at the time I attended.

The professors in my department were very helpful and friendly. They gave great instruction in the majority of the classes. Outside of the Kinesiology department professors are on both ends of the spectrum. Some were great and cared about students learning. Others not so much. The campus isn't very diverse although most students are friendly. All in all it's a good university to attend. And I would recommend it to others.

The professors are also kind and try to teach new information to students. I am in with a good group of students. Class sizes are small so you get to know everyone.... Read More
