How We Rank "Best" Schools
The OnlineU research team verifies that only institutionally accredited schools offering at least one fully online bachelor's in health education degree make the cut. On top of that, schools must also have at least five verified student reviews and an aggregate rating of 2.5+ on a five-point scale. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.
We prioritize the most relevant student feedback by starting with reviews tied to the exact program and degree level. If too few bachelor's in health education qualify, we gradually expand the review pool to include related programs or other degree levels, while preserving the most program-specific results at the top of the list. This process continues until all eligible review data has been considered.

Compare the Highest-Rated Health Education Bachelor's Degrees Online
A bachelor’s in health education can lead toward community health, health promotion, patient education, wellness, public health, or further professional study, so financial comparisons are most useful when viewed alongside the direction of the program itself. Comparing estimated four-year tuition with median earnings can therefore help students consider whether a program’s overall cost fits the type of health education pathway they want to pursue, without treating earnings as a prediction of what any individual graduate will make.
Health education is an applied field that depends heavily on communication, program planning, behavior change, and working effectively with individuals or communities, so the student experience can matter alongside curriculum and career preparation.
Recommendation rates (graph above) offer a broad indication of whether verified reviewers would encourage others to attend, while review ratings capture how those students scored their overall experience. Looking at both can help prospective health education students identify programs where the learning environment may complement their academic and professional priorities, rather than relying on either review measure as a stand-alone indicator of program quality.
Standout Features of the Best Online Health Education Degree Programs: An Editorial Analysis
Where Public Health and Athlete Wellness Intersect
University of North Carolina at Greensboro
UNCG has, perhaps, the strongest sports-health connection among the health education online programs in this ranking. Its Department of Public Health Education is connected to the Center for Athlete Well-being, which works with organizations including the NFL and NCAA Sport Science Institute. That gives students an academic environment where public health can intersect with athlete wellness, prevention, and broader health issues affecting sports communities.
A Broader Health, Fitness, and Recreation Degree
William Carey University
WCU's online BS combines health, physical education, and recreation, with 54 credit hours devoted specifically to those areas. Just as importantly, the program is not structured around teacher licensure. Instead, the university points students toward fields such as community recreation, corporate wellness, athletic administration, wellness consulting, and program management. That makes the degree different from programs centered on public health education, CHES preparation, or community health programming.
Begin Graduate Study Before Finishing the Bachelor’s
Purdue Global
Purdue Global differentiates itself through a Graduate Program Pathways option that allows eligible bachelor’s students to incorporate graduate-level coursework into their undergraduate degree. Those courses may later apply toward graduate study in health education and promotion or public health, creating a more deliberate transition between degree levels.
An Expert's Take: What Health Education Students Should Know
To truly succeed in health education, you need practical experience, cultural awareness, and a commitment to community well-being. To help prospective students understand the real-life impact of earning a health education degree online, we spoke with Brian Clark, a nurse anesthesiologist and emergency medical instructor with years of experience in patient care and training.
Below, he shares his perspective on the evolving role of health educators and what students should focus on during their studies.
Interview with Brian Clark on Studying Health Education Online
CRNA, Emergency Medical Services Instructor
"As a person, who has years of experience in developing education tools that enable medical workers, I do not see a health education degree as just any academic degree but as a practical one. It equips you with the knowledge of how to simplify complex health messages and deliver them to real people in a way that will have a chance to change behavior. The same foundation can help you be clear and effective in the messages you convey in the training you are going to develop.
This is the primary benefit since it is possible to transform clinical knowledge into the consciousness of people. Health education is also useful to become aware of the methods of converting data to action plans and this is what we are doing in the United Medical Education.
It also opens up to other avenues other than clinical one. With a degree in health education, you can proceed to program design, online learning environments, wellness management or even policy advocacy. It is a moving medium which keeps abreast with the healthcare setting and in [a] profession that is ever evolving.
The ability to educate individuals in a good manner and a responsible one is one of the most effective weapons that you can be armed with."
