How We Rank "Most Affordable" Schools

%%YEAR%% Most Affordable Online %%LEVEL_NAME%% in %%PROGRAM_NAME%% Badge

The OnlineU research team manually collects and verifies tuition data for every school on our lists, ensuring you see accurate, up-to-date costs whether you're pursuing an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program. To qualify, schools must offer fully online degrees, hold institutional accreditation, and have verifiable enrollment data through the National Center for Education Statistics. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.

We prioritize schools that offer a consistent tuition rate across programs at the same degree level, so you're not caught off guard by unexpected price differences between majors, and for graduate programs we go a step further by individually calculating program costs since credit requirements and fees vary widely.

Online Degree:

What Sets This Program Apart:

  • LC State explicitly calls the bachelor’s a “practitioner degree” and frames it as an “entry point to management training programs.”
  • With only 700+ online students, the experience is likely to feel substantially smaller and more personal than large national online universities, and student reviews reinforce this idea. Students describe accessible professors, individualized attention, and relationship-driven support as central strengths.

AI Student Review Summary: Students frequently describe Lewis-Clark State College as a personable, career-focused college where small classes and accessible professors create strong academic support. Reviewers often praise practical coursework, individualized attention, and preparation that helped them pursue graduate study, internships, or professional opportunities. Many also value the close-knit campus atmosphere and the ability to build meaningful relationships with instructors. Criticism is more limited and centers mainly on administrative inefficiency, particularly transfer-credit problems and confusing processes that delayed progress. A smaller concern is whether pursuing additional credentials always delivers proportional career value beyond the school’s core workforce-oriented training.

What Sets This Program Apart:

  • Between 18 credits of management electives and 23 free elective credits, students can shape up to 41 credits around specific industries, operational functions, or leadership interests — far more customization space than many online BBA programs allow.
  • FHSU builds what are essentially mini-specialization clusters inside the management major itself. A student interested in operational systems, for example, can stack Lean Systems, Total Quality Management, Supply Chain Management, and Project/Program Management into a coherent process-improvement pathway.
  • FHSU includes Leadership Studies coursework alongside an actual fieldwork course, which introduces a more experiential element into a fully online pathway.

AI Student Review Summary: Affordability and online flexibility are the qualities students mention most often about Fort Hays State University. Reviewers frequently praise supportive professors, approachable advisors, small classes, and a welcoming environment that helps working adults, athletes, and distance learners balance school with other responsibilities. Many also describe the education as practical and valuable for career or graduate-school preparation. Criticism centers mainly on student services, with students reporting inconsistent advising, slow communication from offices, financial aid frustrations, and uneven online course quality. Some also mention outdated materials, limited feedback, overcrowding, parking shortages, and housing or dining concerns.

A Data-Driven Look at Our Most Affordable Online Management Degrees

When exploring an affordable online college from our list above, you can rest assured all schools we feature on our site are institutionally accredited. But you may be wondering, how do these online management students fare after they graduate? That's why we offer a more in-depth analysis with all of the data we can gather about these schools and the online management degrees themselves and where they lead.

Our 2026 rankings focus on affordability (all tuition figures were manually collected and then separately verified by our research team), but the smartest picks usually come from combining the price details with projected program outcomes and fit. As you compare schools, we want you to learn how to look at yearly tuition and total tuition alongside other helpful data points, like median earnings among management degree alums.

Below, we offer a closer look at what differentiates the lowest-cost management bachelor’s programs on this list — and how to use the data to make a decision you won’t regret.

If you want to start out in management in a lower stakes program that's only two years old, check out our list of the most affordable online associate degrees in management.

Affordability vs. Value in Online Management Bachelor's Degrees

If you are most concerned about keeping costs down, we totally get it. In that case, California Coast University is the leader at $5,100 per year, regardless of residency. It covers all the core business topics you'll need to learn about, like leadership skills, operations strategies, HR regulations, and project management operations. CCU’s management program is all online and self-paced (i.e., no set class times) and you can start any day of the year. For students who need maximum schedule control (or who want to move quickly using transfer credit), that flexible structure can be the deciding factor. CCU also promotes interest-free payment plans.

But if we're looking at a total value-focused comparison, you’re usually asking: Will this management degree mean stronger earnings or advancement in the long run?

That's why we created the graph below that shows total 4-year tuition for some of the top affordable schools alongside the projected salary outcomes for those specific management programs. (Please note that these management alumni are reporting salaries around four years after graduating with the degree.)

So, if you want an online management degree program that offers the best bang for your buck with low tuition and health salary projections, check out our top picks:

Thomas Edison State University combines $7,044 in annual in-state tuition with $80,852 median earnings (86th percentile nationally in this field).

The University of Maryland Global Campus is another option with strong long-term value at $9,900 in-state tuition with $79,183 median earnings (83rd percentile).

The University of Texas Permian Basin stays near the top of our list on its price point ($6,576) while posting $72,577 median earnings (69th percentile).

Fort Hays State University also holds costs down ($7,951/year) while graduates earn ~$63,192. Plus, the school has a very strong 82% recommendation rate based on students we've surveyed.

If you’re trying to balance affordability with long-term results, these schools show why ROI is a helpful consideration when making such a big financial decision.

What Sets These Affordable Online Management Programs Apart?

Two students can pay the same published tuition and still spend very different amounts overall, depending on transfer policies, credit for prior learning, and built-in credentials.

  • Finish faster (and cheaper) via prior learning:

  • CCU has high transfer acceptance, credit options for documented learning, and challenge-style testing in some cases.
  • TESU is known for credit efficiency through mechanisms like exam-based credit and prior learning assessment, which can result in major savings for certain groups, like adult learners with work or military experience.
  • Several others (like CSU and CCCK) highlight transfer-friendly policies (often up to 90 credits!), which can reduce time and cost if you’ve already completed some Ged Ed courses somewhere else.
  • Stack credentials while you study toward a degree:

  • UTPB bundles microcredentials and/or certificates into the degree path (so electives can do double-duty).
  • UW - Stout leans into embedded certificate options that can help your career later on. Its management program also offers prior-learning credit opportunities.
  • Study a specialization within the management context:

  • FHSU allows deep customization through clusters such as lean systems, supply chain management, project/program management, entrepreneurship, and tourism & hospitality.
  • UA Grantham provides specializations within management, including human resources, supply chain, operations, financial planning, and organizational leadership.
  • UWA offers more niche emphases, like agribusiness, agritourism, rural business, nonprofit administration, and entrepreneurship.

Speaking of specializations, the field of management is quite large. There are many different subsets to choose from. Instead of presenting yourself as “generally qualified” with a management degree that's broad, you could show employers that your coursework aligns with a specific function or industry if you decide to go with a major that's more specific in nature.

Below are some other bachelor's-level options from accredited in the field of management that start from a place of low cost:

Of course, it should be said that a broader management degree, like one from our rankings list above, offers a certain amount of flexibility that more specialized programs often don’t. While degrees in supply chain, project, healthcare, hospitality, or emergency management prepare you for specific roles, a general management degree potentially keeps more career doors open (especially early on when you may not know what exactly to commit to).

General management courses also help build transferable leadership skills that apply across sectors. These include supervising teams, budgeting, operations, communication, and decision-making. This makes it easier to move between industries or step into supervisory roles without needing retraining tied to a single field.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both sides, naturally, but we want to make sure you have all the options before you. You can also keep in mind the option of adding certificates and job experience later on. You may even go on to get an affordable online master's in management

Expert Q&A: Leadership Advice From a Management Consultant and Strategist

Headshot of Daniel Feiman (MBA, CMC)

What is most important when choosing an affordable online business management bachelor's program?

"[Consider] how practical the curriculum is. When we go into the 'real world' to apply what we know, the theory doesn’t always get the job done… or even start. When the information is presented by experienced professionals who have actually done what they talk about, you have some real value."

What's a benefit of earning a management degree 100% online?

"[I think it's] the convenience & flexibility to work with one’s own schedule & responsibilities."

Business management is a broad field. How can students tailor their degree to fit specific career goals?

"Align [the goals] with your passion, interests, or skillset."

"You will be working in this field for many years so you should focus on something that will drive you for years to come."

What skills are most helpful for management bachelor's students to learn?

  • "Learning the ropes

  • Understanding the difference between theory & practice

  • Active listening skills

  • Asking good questions

  • Being able to write well."

EXPERT TIP

"Learn the difference between managing & leading. Understand what it takes to manage people. Master the skills every manager needs to succeed. Learn your dominant management style. Be able to leverage 'situational' leadership [by] using the style needed in the moment."

FAQs About An Affordable Online Management Degree

What Hidden Costs Should Students Watch For in Online Management Programs?

Even among affordable programs, hidden costs can change the total price. Common examples include textbooks and course materials, technology or platform fees, and proctoring/exam fees.

Some schools on our list above are actively reducing these surprises with refreshing transparency since they are targeting students on a budget. For example, CSU includes textbooks in tuition, while UMGC replaces most textbooks with no-cost digital materials. All of this lowers the total out-of-pocket expenses.

You can also read our guide about how to save money in college and take advantage of all the cost-saving opportunities out there.

What Scholarships Are Available for Business or Management Students Online?

We have a curated scholarship guide that has everything you need to know about scholarship. That said though, scholarships for online management students are often institution-based.

On our list, there are several schools with targeted tuition discounts instead of traditional scholarships.

  • CCU, for example, offers a 10% tuition discount for active-duty military, veterans, first responders, government employees, alumni, and corporate partners.
  • SSU mentions a regional Free Tuition Initiative for qualifying students in Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky.
  • CSU references Learning Partner discounts for employer- or association-affiliated students.
  • UMGC is well-known for serving military-connected students through reduced per-credit rates.

In addition, many public universities on the list participate in systemwide or transfer-pathway scholarships, especially for adult students and community college transfers.

The bottom line is this: always check for scholarships and tuition discounts at the institution you're interested in. Click into any of the management programs above to learn more information about what they offer.

Do Online Management Students Qualify for Federal Financial Aid?

Yes, accredited schools, whether online or in-person accept federal financial aid, including Pell Grants and federal student loans, as long as students meet eligibility requirements, that is.

Many of the schools from our 2026 list position their online management bachelor's programs for working adults and military learners, which typically means Title IV participation. However, students should always confirm accreditation and aid eligibility directly with the school’s financial aid office, especially when considering self-paced or non-term formats, which can affect how aid is disbursed.

Do Affordable Online Management Programs Offer Payment Plans?

Yes, and this is one of the most common affordability features across our list. CCU has interest-free payment plans, for example. Other schools, including CSU and several public institutions, offer per-credit pricing, monthly or term-based billing, or employer-aligned payment options that allow students to spread out the costs over a period of time.

While these plans don’t reduce tuition, but they can make (even low-cost) degrees more manageable without relying too heavily on student loans.

I really enjoyed how the classes we're 5 weeks. It allowed me to take 1 class at a time so I could focus all my efforts on that 1 particular course. Also it seemed to make the semesters and my overall time I spent in school pursuing my degree go and move quickly. The professors were also quick to respond whenever I had a question, which was a concerned I had prior to attending. However this was never an issue. My first advisor/ counselor was horrible. When I was struggling with the excel track, she would dismiss my concern and the tutors would tell me they are unable to help me because it’s “self taught”. I have had official transcripts sent twice to the school. Even though I get email verification that they have arrived, they act like they never did. I can't get the finance dept to send me an email to set up my Bank Mobile to get refunds. The instructors that aren't professors are there just to pass time. They are barely active in the class. I have a hard time even responding to discussion boards because the number of students in the class are illiterate clowns that can't follow instructions.

Great experience in getting my degree. I was able to work fulltime, take care of my family and complete school. The university academic counselors worked with me from financial aid to scheduling. They stayed in contact with me once a month for encouragement and any needed assistance. The coursework was quite enjoyable as most of it was relatable to the workforce I was in. I highly recommend for working adults.

Broward College offers a great value for the degrees offered. The professors are knowledgeable and helpful. Class sizes are small which really lends to a sense of community. Broward College offers online, semi-online and on-campus options to best fit the needs of its students. I have, and will continue to, recommend Broward College to others.

I see that most of the negative comments here are from students that are either in debt or are not suited to be in an online program. An online program is designed to be self-paced, not instructor-led. The instructors are their to guide you on your way to finish the class. All the rubrics and resources that you will ever need are provided for you; if you don't have the motivation to go look for them then that is your fault. Honestly, this would not be a university to attend right out of college.... Read More

CCU offers a great bargain in a high quality distance learning system. If you're looking for "life experience credits" it will not be at CCU. You earn your degree. However, some military schooling will provide some credits. I found the schools system of payments, electronic testing, library rental and student portal to be near flawless. The student success advisor I dealt with was phenomenal! (Ms B.). All the encouragement and advise anyone could ask for. I found it he course requirements very similar... Read More

I attended National American University after I earned an associates degree in generals at a local community college. I enrolled with the school because of the high amount of transfer credit they gave me. My entire associates degree transferred over! I have two small kids and take classes online while working full time. I have found the staff very helpful and the online formatting to fit very well with my hectic life.

I feel very fortunate to have found DeVry Online because this is the only way I am able to go back to school. At the time when I joined, I had no transportation and no money to buy transportation. Plus I have poor credit since I was laid off from my last professional job in 2007, the heart of the recession. DeVry Online is helping my gaining the technical knowledge and skills that I need to achieve a bachelor's degree in a very competitive world. The classes are challenging and the programs are up-to-date... Read More

The online school has helped me a great deal as I have a busy schedule and have little time for scheduling class time at a campus. I researched Penn Foster before beginning classes with the Dept. of Education. The organization in which they are accredited (Distance Education and Training Council-DETC) is accepted by the Dept. of Education as a legitimate college for obtain degrees.

I found the monthly installment payments to benefit me. I pay ahead a few months, to be advanced on my payments. Less... Read More

I also obtained a certificate in Microsoft Office 2010 before beginning my studies in Business Management. When my software arrived I attempted to download it to my operating system. As it was trying to overwrite my current software I was finding my laptop to be troublesome with the new program. So I called Penn Foster. I only had to speak to ONE agent before I was transferred to the Professor to instruct me further. He was tremendously helpful and extremely kind. I enjoyed his help and found that my problem was actually a simple one, which I was able to fix myself, with his guidance.

I save the best for last. I am thoroughly impressed with the materials I have received from Penn Foster. The Introduction to Business is thorough and concentrated. The study guides have proved to be necessary and do help focus on areas that WILL be on the examinations. I am preparing to take a Proctored Exam.

Proctored Exams are a way for the school to prove its own credibility and yours as a long distance student. Proctored exams, under the monitoring of pre-approved proctors (who have a degree) simply help to monitor students as they take important examinations without the help of the internet or online materials; or any help from outside individuals with the answers for the questions on their Finals. I'm excited to finally take my final exam.

For anyone who has had technical difficulties with your laptops or computers while taking webinars, I am certain that no one can aid you if all you need is a new computer, java or flash script ability. I believe the school will do all they can to assist you with your technical issues as they did me.

Too much blame and finger pointing on the school. Sometimes it is the student late with payments or getting their classes accomplished. Just because it is a Distance Learning Institution doesn't mean that we can just neglect our classes, webinars or payments. There still must be a schedule, I believe, to obtain goals. I rank Penn Foster highly among Distance Learning institutions.
