How We Rank "Best" Schools

%%YEAR%% Best Online %%LEVEL_NAME%% in %%PROGRAM_NAME%% Badge

The OnlineU research team verifies that only institutionally accredited schools offering at least one fully online bachelor's in marketing degree make the cut. On top of that, schools must also have at least five verified student reviews and an aggregate rating of 2.5+ on a five-point scale. While some of our rankings include partner schools, every school is evaluated using the exact same criteria.

We prioritize the most relevant student feedback by starting with reviews tied to the exact program and degree level. If too few bachelor's in marketing qualify, we gradually expand the review pool to include related programs or other degree levels, while preserving the most program-specific results at the top of the list. This process continues until all eligible review data has been considered.

  • CCU allows students to use challenge examinations for up to 10 bachelor’s courses when they can demonstrate knowledge gained through occupational experience.
  • Student Review Summary: Reviews of California Coast University are overwhelmingly positive, with learners praising its self-paced structure, low tuition, flexible payment plans, and responsive staff. Many say it fits demanding work and family schedules while still delivering rigorous coursework, extensive writing, challenging open-book or proctored exams, and practical career value. Several report promotions, salary gains, certification eligibility, and employer recognition after graduating. Credit transfer and accreditation remain the clearest concerns: some reviews warn that nationally accredited credits may not transfer smoothly or support certain licensure paths. A few also cite limited instructor interaction, uneven feedback, delayed thesis support, and the requirement to fully pay tuition before receiving a degree.

    Online Degree:

    What Sets This Program Apart:

    • Students can add a Digital Marketing and Artificial Intelligence emphasis to the marketing BBA online, creating a specialized pathway that connects marketing strategy with emerging AI applications.
    • The program is housed in what UW-Whitewater identifies as the largest AACSB-accredited business school in Wisconsin, giving online students access to a comparatively large accredited business-school environment.

Student Review Summary: Reviews portray UW-Whitewater as a well-regarded, affordable campus that balances a small-town feel with substantial opportunities. Many describe approachable professors, small classes, and unusually strong one-on-one support from faculty, advisors, and even administrators. You also see repeated praise for updated facilities, accessibility, transfer friendliness, and the ease of joining sports, clubs, and campus events that lead to close friendships and a strong sense of belonging. Career preparation stands out through internships, hands-on learning, and job readiness. Criticisms are narrower but notable: some departments feel underfunded or still developing, course quality can vary by instructor, and certain group-project experiences were frustrating.

    Online Degree:

    What Sets This Program Apart:

    • The online Marketing concentration is structured around four required courses: Internet Marketing Principles, Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, and Advertising.
    • The business programs hold ACBSP programmatic accreditation in addition to the university’s SACSCOC institutional accreditation.

Student Review Summary: Reviews are largely favorable, driven by high ratings and repeated praise for flexibility, affordability, and responsive support. Many reviewers say the format works especially well around full-time work, military service, parenting, travel, and irregular schedules. They frequently mention included or low-cost books, generous transfer credit policies, helpful advisors, and coursework that is more writing- and research-intensive than expected, with heavy APA requirements and few group projects. Criticism centers on inconsistent professor quality, generic or minimal feedback, slow refunds or financial aid issues, confusing advising, proctoring frustrations, and long-running concerns about credit transferability, recognition, and the school’s past national accreditation status.

Student Review Summary: Reviewers describe Temple University as a generally worthwhile choice defined by strong academics, approachable professors, and unusually rich access to hands-on learning, internships, research, study abroad, and Philadelphia-based networking. Many say the size creates both breadth and a smaller-community feel through honors, cohort, or department-level support. Diversity, flexibility for commuters and working adults, and career-relevant experiences stand out. Recurring frustrations center on administrative inefficiency, especially financial aid, advising, registration, and outdated communication. Safety concerns about the surrounding neighborhood appear often, though many note a secure campus presence. Some also cite weak career guidance, housing limitations, heavy workloads, and uneven value.

Student Review Summary: Reviews of Utah State University are overwhelmingly favorable, with students most often praising approachable professors, strong advising, affordable tuition, and a close-knit campus in Logan that feels safe, scenic, and community-oriented. Many say small classes, responsive faculty, and hands-on or career-aligned learning made them feel well prepared for work or further study. Online and broadcast courses are repeatedly described as flexible and unusually effective for working adults and distance learners. Student Review Summary: Reviews of Arizona State University, Online trend positive but divided. Many describe strong flexibility for working adults, military families, parents, and transfer learners, praising the user-friendly portal, accelerated courses, responsive professors, and support from advisors, tech help, and financial aid. Several say the online format matched on-campus rigor and helped them finish faster without pausing work. The sharpest criticisms focus on value: high tuition, extra fees, prerecorded lectures, limited live interaction, and compressed 7.5-week courses that feel especially punishing in technical subjects. A recurring concern is inconsistent advising, slow grading, uneven instructor engagement, and degrees that did not clearly translate into jobs.

Student Review Summary: Reviews portray University of Florida as a high-value, high-energy experience shaped by strong academics, intense school spirit, and an unusually powerful alumni network. Many students praise approachable professors, abundant clubs, research, internships, mentoring, and career connections that led to jobs, graduate study, or confidence in the workforce. The large-campus setting is seen as both a strength and a drawback: it offers breadth, diversity, major sporting culture, and countless resources, yet can leave students feeling anonymous in huge classes. Student Review Summary: Reviews describe a sharply divided experience, though the overall pattern leans positive because many reviewers gave high ratings for flexible online scheduling, accelerated one-class-at-a-time pacing, industry-experienced instructors, practical projects, networking, and included equipment. Supportive faculty, recorded lectures, and career-relevant assignments were often cited as reasons reviewers felt more confident and job-ready. The strongest complaints center on very high tuition, heavy debt, inconsistent instructor responsiveness, outdated or third-party teaching materials, weak career placement, and limited credit transferability. A notable takeaway is that satisfaction often depended on self-motivation: reviewers who thrived independently valued the pace, while others felt they were paying to teach themselves.

Students often say the model rewards self-discipline, independent learning, and prior experience, and several report promotions, salary increases, or faster career mobility after finishing. Common frustrations center on mandatory mentor calls, inconsistent third-party grading, vague rubrics, limited live instruction, proctoring or technical issues, and concerns about transferability, pass-fail transcripts, and occasional administrative or licensure-placement complications. Compare the Best Online Marketing Degree Programs

As the graph above shows, the five highest-earning marketing bachelor's programs online are much more tightly grouped by median earnings than by approximate four-year tuition. Earnings range from $75,201 to $81,525, while total tuition spans $13,428 to $69,600 — a more than fivefold difference. This is helpful to consider in a field like marketing, where students may be choosing among online programs aimed at similar broad career paths but paying very different prices for the credential.

As illustrated in the graph above, recommendation rates are concentrated at the top of this marketing ranking. Five schools reach 100%, and every school in the top 10 is at 86% or higher. That clustering makes the 5-point review rating especially useful because a yes-or-no recommendation measure cannot show the same degree of separation.

The five schools at 100% recommendation, for example, range from a 4.8 review rating at CCU to 3.86 at ETSU. CSU and Full Sail likewise share an 88% recommendation rate but differ in rating, at 4.2 versus 3.99. Together, the two metrics provide a more nuanced view of student satisfaction when you're trying to find the best online school for a marketing bachelor's degree.

Standout Features of the Most Highly-Rated Online Marketing Bachelor's Degrees: An Editorial Analysis

For Brand Storytelling and Audience Strategy

    University of Florida

UF's online BS is specifically in Advertising – Persuasive Messaging and sits within the College of Journalism and Communications, shifting the emphasis toward how brands influence, communicate with, and understand audiences. Courses such as Consumer and Audience Analytics, Digital Insights, and Advertising Strategy combine message development with evidence about audience behavior, making this particularly relevant for students drawn to branding, advertising, media, or strategic communications.

    Built Around AI-Assisted Marketing Workflows

    Full Sail University

Several programs on this list mention AI, but Full Sail goes much further in identifying the actual tools students may encounter in digital marketing workflows. Its curriculum incorporates platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, NotebookLM, HubSpot AI, and Jasper alongside Google Ads, Google Analytics, Semrush, Canva, and other marketing technology. The emphasis is less on discussing AI conceptually and more on combining it with search, content development, analytics, advertising, and campaign execution.

Try the Marketing Program Before Committing

    Purdue Global

Purdue Global stands apart for offering qualifying undergraduates the chance to begin with a three-week trial period. For an online marketing bachelor’s, the course format, workload, technology, and the amount of independent learning required can be difficult to judge from an admissions page alone. None of the other programs in this ranking foregrounds a comparable try-before-you-commit structure.

How can students evaluate an online marketing program for quality?

"Look for project-based courses. I think the best way to learn is when classes allow you to take on a project from the 'real world.' Helping a local business with marketing and pitching them some marketing suggestions gives you the real world application rather than a bunch of theory. I think classes where you can apply what you learn is the most important thing to look out for."

"I think the best way to learn is when classes allow you to take on a project from the 'real world.'"

How can online marketing students get practical experience?

"An internship is one of the most important things you can do as a student. An internship allows you to learn more about a marketing subject, so you can see if you like it. They also often give mentors, which is not something you can often find once you work full-time.

Anywhere where you can apply what you learned, is going to get you the best experience and set you apart."

Which marketing skills are most valuable for students to develop?

"Having a skill in marketing is the most important thing. Having too broad of marketing knowledge won't really help you much. It's important to be an expert and have a skill in something.

Right now, I'd say SEO/GEO and social media are the most valuable skills a marketing professional can have right now."

What other advice would you give students who want to pursue a marketing degree online?

"Try to get an internship or a marketing assistant position at your school, or local business, etc. This will make all of the information make more sense and stick better."

    EXPERT TIP

"Marketing is an umbrella term and there are so many different things you can do in marketing. Find what aligns best with what you want to do and where your strong suits are, then try to learn as much about that as possible."

FAQs About Online Marketing Bachelor's Degrees

What Should You Expect From an Online Bachelor's in Marketing?

Online bachelor's in marketing degrees cover the principles of marketing, digital strategies, consumer behavior, and market research. Online courses typically cover social media marketing, analytics, branding, and strategic communication. By completing one of these online marketing degrees, which come with various concentration options, you can go on to become content marketing specialists, social media managers, and digital marketers.

Online marketing degrees are designed to teach students how to analyze and understand consumer behavior, trends, and purchasing habits. Their analysis then turns into marketing campaigns that promote products and services for target audiences. Marketing degrees are not only delivered online, but students also learn digital marketing techniques to promote products through social media, mobile apps, search engine optimization, and website advertisements. Additional subjects covered in an online marketing degree often include consumer analytics, brand identity, and mass communication.

In order to create the best possible branding and promotional materials, marketing majors must also understand business through sales strategies, business law, and managerial processes. For this reason, some students choose a business degree focusing on marketing. Regardless of the type of degree in marketing, students should ensure their school is accredited, which means an independent education agency has evaluated its programs and faculty to ensure quality. All online schools featured on OnlineU are fully accredited institutions.

Applying to college online for a marketing degree requires first-year students to submit their high school transcripts in order to prove they've taken the prerequisite courses. When filling out the school's online application, students may have the chance to present their college entrance exams. Other applications may include space for personal essays, which allows students to outline and explain their decision to pursue a marketing degree.

How Long Does It Take To Get a Marketing Degree?

Most marketing degrees require at least 120 credits, which can be completed in four years. This is a typical graduation timeline for full-time students. Part-time students usually take five or more years to graduate, although some programs allow students eight years to finish all required coursework. Part-time online degrees are ideal for students who have already started their marketing careers in entry-level positions.

For an Online Marketing Bachelor's Degree, Should You Choose a BA or BS?

A marketing degree online can be either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS).

    • BS programs in marketing tend to be more popular because the field involves a great deal of quantitative analysis, such as consumer purchasing trends, market research, and social media engagement.
    • BA degrees in marketing, on the other hand, may focus more on the overarching business strategies that rely on marketing to be more effective.

What Classes Are Common in Online Marketing Bachelor's Programs?

Marketing degrees are available 100% online, with coursework delivered through learning management systems. Professors lead classroom discussions through online chat rooms and give lectures through live video streaming platforms.

Marketing degrees are all about teaching students ways to communicate with consumers while providing opportunities for businesses to expand their reach in a given market. There are many ways this can be done, with different strategies for different types of companies. Therefore, students need to understand all aspects of marketing, from communication techniques to consumer behavior.

    • Social Media Marketing: A social media marketing course is found in most marketing programs, particularly those focusing on digital outreach. Students learn to create effective communication strategies, including visual assets, advertisements, and influencer campaigns, on several social media platforms, using key performance indicators to drive their content.
    • Marketing Research: Marketing research involves the study and analysis of past, present, and future customers. Students design research parameters, collect customer feedback, and analyze data. This course also engages students in real-world business scenarios, where they must develop marketing strategies based on their research findings.
    • Consumer Behavior: Consumer behavior is related to marketing because it allows business managers to understand their consumers from psychological and cultural perspectives. Students learn to identify how potential customers are likely to interact with a product or service, with the hopes of developing strategies to persuade their purchasing decisions.
    • Global Marketing: In this course, students explore marketing on an international scale, including its political, social, and economic aspects. A global marketing course benefits students aiming to work for large multinational corporations, where they learn to analyze foreign markets, solve trade issues, and develop marketing strategies for different types of cultures.

Another similar program to marketing is a communications degree, which is designed to be more broad in terms of scope.

Which Degree Is Best for Marketing?

Marketing students often get the most value from a Bachelor of Science in Marketing — such as those featured in our list above — because the coursework prepares them with the analytical skills needed to succeed in professional roles.

Alternatively, there are online business degrees with marketing concentrations that focus on developing hard skills in analytics alongside soft skills in communication and management. Some students may prefer digital marketing degrees because they explore the latest social media and website marketing strategies.

Are Online Marketing Bachelor's Degrees Worth It?

    Benefits

    • The BLS states that marketing managers are on the over the next decade, which is well beyond the average pace across U.S. occupations. And just for that niche within the marketing landscape, there are about 36,400 openings each year.
    • Marketing professionals can have fulfilling roles in their community. For example, marketing graduates can work for nonprofits where they engage in fundraising for social causes and promote organizations that provide free services to those less fortunate.
    • Marketing graduates often make successful entrepreneurs. Students become equipped with the skills needed to promote and manage a small business of their own.

    Drawbacks

    • Marketing students must learn to work in groups. Many marketing programs operate like a business, with plenty of cross-collaboration and teamwork.
    • Marketing teams may be more likely to see layoffs than other departments. Advertising is often the first area businesses cut when executives need to reduce spending.
    • Marketers work under tight deadlines. Marketing degrees help prepare students to complete projects on short timelines, but professionals work at a much faster pace when delivering campaigns to clients.

Marketing degrees are an excellent way for aspiring business professionals to learn how to promote products, services, and brands to potential customers. These programs blend management and communication skills with market research and data analytics techniques — the latter of which can also be developed in a data analytics degree. Graduates in marketing will enter an ever-growing job market ready to develop digital and traditional marketing campaigns for modern consumers.

I have attended four brick-and-mortar schools over the years in an attempt to finish my Bachelor’s, and each time I would get frustrated with the slow pace and bureaucracy and “take a break.” I researched WGU obsessively for a few months before applying. They were responsive and applied almost all of my transfer credits, and now I’m a month away from finally having my degree. I have had an amazing experience so far.
